Meet Kaci Whitby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaci Whitby.

Mark Twain famously wrote, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” It didn’t take long for Kaci Whitby to discover her passion for music, and her God-given talent of singing has been her driving force since before she could remember. According to her grandmother, Kaci was singing before she started talking, making the aforementioned quote evident within her spirit at a very young age.

“When I was a little girl, I can remember singing in the Children’s Choir at church. I knew then that music had power. I know music reaches the hearts of people. I once heard someone say, ‘God didn’t choose me because I’m gifted. I’m gifted because God chose me.” I couldn’t agree with that more. I know without a shadow of a doubt that my gift of music was something bestowed upon me by God to touch the world. The Forest City, Arkansas native, is the third of four children and in addition to singing all of her life, Kaci studied classical saxophone for seven years.

Kaci took the necessary steps to increase her vocal abilities, to get an educational grasp on music, she went away to college at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. There she started studying voice and became classically trained. She later transferred to Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX where she received her B.A. in Liberal Arts. With music at the forefront of her life, she plays multiple instruments and is an avid songwriter.

Recently, Kaci won the coveted title of DFW Icon Grand Champion 2017, which awarded her to opportunity to fly to LA to write and record with multi award-winning producer and writer Jonathan George of JG Entertainment. Jonathan says, “There is nothing like the chills you get when you hear the soulful sounds of Kaci Whitby melodizing your ears.” She competed against nearly 100 artists from all over Texas and Oklahoma.

Kaci has a voice that can’t be categorized into one genre, she can effortlessly deliver vocals of anything from Country to Jazz without skipping a beat. The young, dynamic, and well-educated songstress has goals of taking center stage and touring the country by providing untapped talent to listeners. She’s more than an artist, but a motivator, innovator, and entertainer.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to getting where I am today has been filled with many learning opportunities and many many setbacks. Even now as I sit here typing, my fingers hurt a bit. Why? Because I’ve been going through chemotherapy. I was diagnosed with cancer last year. The chemo messed with my voice for a little bit but luckily it’s back now. I never gave up on my dreams but life kept pulling me away. I needed to focus on taking care of my family and music couldn’t always be my priority…

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kaci Whitby – what should we know?
I am a country music artist. I have loved country music since I was a little girl. My specialty is taking that country sound and adding a little soul to the mix. When they’re brought together, you get this rich sound with some country twang. I love it. I love that I can blend those two and represent the best parts of me. This is also what sets me apart from other sounds out there.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Oh my goodness. I could not be here where I am today without the help of some really amazing people. I have been blessed with such a great support system. I have had some really amazing voice teachers over the years. Theresa Ciemenski, Suzanne Galer, Beverly Hoch, Laurie Lee Cosby, and Jeanice Woobrey are the voice teachers that I’ve had in my life to help guide my way. They gave me a great foundation in classical and commercial music. My family has been the best cheerleaders. They combined with my incredible network of friends is the reason I’m still going. It’s a tough business and they’ve never stopped encouraging me to keep going. Working with JG Entertainment was also a great thing for me and my career. I recorded my first single and that gave me marketable material to grow.
