Meet Kaderra Hilts of Fox Of All Trades in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaderra Hilts.

Kaderra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My entire life, I have always been a creative individual. I’m convinced it’s in my genes because both my mother and my father are multi-talented people. I was born and raised in Decatur, GA, grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, then landed in Arlington, TX during my 8th-grade year. Before technology became accessible to me, I would write stories, poems, songs, and draw in my free time. My imagination was so strong that I could sit in an empty room with four white walls and be 100% entertained by the world in my head. When I attended Sam Houston High School, I was put into, at the time, an experimental class that was put in place to produce the morning announcements on video. It was the first time I was handed a professional camera, and I haven’t been able to put it down since.

Being the executive director of “Texan TV” for the first three years of its existence inspired me to continue my career in media. I am now a graduating senior majoring in mass communication at Grambling State University. By working in Grambling TV Center, I have had the opportunity to work for ESPN and other large scale productions. I’ve grown as a creator on the media side as well as a painter and a poet. Not many people have had the opportunities that I’ve been blessed with. I feel very fortunate to be representing black women in spaces that we are normally not seen in. This time next year, I plan to have my first degree and creating beautiful art on many different mediums.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like they say, “A jack of all trades is a master of none.” I feel that the most difficult obstacle was figuring out which one of my passions should take priority over the other. Pursuing too many different things at one time would make me feel so overwhelmed that I would just shut down and not do anything. Putting myself out there and becoming more confident in my own abilities was also a struggle I had to push through.

We’d love to hear more about Fox Of All Trades.
Fox Of All Trades is an umbrella name I chose for my business because of my different interests and skills. Beneath this umbrella, there are Fox Shots and Fox Kreates. Fox Shots encompasses photography, videography, and graphic design. I do studio shoots, music videos, promotional videos, business logos, flyers, and much more. Fox Kreates is centered around my love of creating canvas painting, wood paintings, repurposed liquor bottles, and other home decorations.

I’ve always felt like a weird person. I don’t see the world in the same way as others and I often find that it is difficult for people to understand my way of thinking. I see this as a strength because I can create things that people have never seen before. Also, because I am usually misunderstood, I’ve always made an effort to understand other people and their needs. People can sometimes have a hard time communicating what they want, so I pride myself on being able to pick apart muddled messages, ask the right questions, and give the consumer exactly what they were looking for or better.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t personally believe in good or bad luck. I praise God every day for everything he has blessed me with and for getting me this far. Not everything has been sunshine and rainbows but I feel that everything I’ve gone through is necessary for my success.
