Pretty and Poised was birthed in the middle of Dillard’s outlet! I was shopping and talking to my grandmother, and I said: “I wish women knew more about the quality of clothing rather than what’s trending.” That’s when I said I can provide quality clothing at affordable prices for women. She encouraged me to do so and that’s exactly what I did.
The following week, I went and filed my DBA and then I got to work. I researched vendors by checking reviews and other boutiques and department stores where their clothing was sold. I also held focus group meetings to get an idea of what women look for when they are online shopping. I knew the price was going to be the main factor, so I made sure that the quality of the clothing matched the price.
One thing I didn’t want Pretty And Poised to be was a “Trendy” boutique. When you shop Pretty and Poised, originality will trump popularity. Pretty and Poised is an Online Boutique that ships out of Cedar Hill, Texas. To introduce Pretty and Poised to the world, I hosted a launch party/pop up shop. I wanted women to see the quality of my products and build the relationship of knowing that what you see online is what you will get shipped to you.
Pretty and Poised opened November 4, 2018, offering different styles to all women with different body types. I want to provide something for everyone and that’s exactly what I am doing! I see Pretty and Poised opening up a store location soon but till then, anybody interested in quality clothing at affordable prices should shop online at www.beprettyandpoised.com.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, this road has not been smooth at all! I personally don’t want anything that comes easily to me.
My main struggle is showing people that Popularity is not everything! I don’t want what anything that a lot of people already have.
With Pretty and Poised, you won’t get the fear of going out and seeing someone with the same thing you have on. To me, boutiques should have those “one of a kind” everyone doesn’t have what you have.
When you wear something from my boutique, someone should be able to ask you “where did you get that?”
And getting that message out has been a struggle for me. And also, quality has also been a struggle, I have purchased so much trash it’s ridiculous (in my opinion). There is nothing in my boutique a one time wear. So, a lot of money has been wasted on samples and or merchandise that I would never use.
I literally have a pile of clothes that I plan to donate cause I am not going to sale it.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pretty and Poised – what should we know?
Pretty and Poised name speaks for itself. I want to give women confidence, I have something for every woman for almost every occasion.
Pretty and Poised will be known for the Originality and the Quality.
I am proud that I have been able to deliver nothing but the best. The quality, comfort, affordable prices.
I feel like what sets me around apart from other boutiques is that I am ALL for being original, that’s the goal. Making being original “trendy.” I am not saying I don’t want any popular items, but I rather not have so many of the same items that you can get anywhere.

Family, friends and Facebook friends that have shared liked purchased something from my boutique I am really grateful cause it makes me feel that they see me and agree with what I am trying to provide to women.
I also will have to give credit to those that help me and guided me to find vendors, business loans, helped making business plans for loans, people that participated in my focus groups and photoshoots. Makeup artist and models.
I didn’t do any this alone and I am grateful for all the help.
