Meet Kaegan Compton of Osgood-Oneil Salon in Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaegan Compton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaegan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The idea for getting into the world of hairdressing first came to me in my late teens. I thought it looked like everyone I met when I would get my hair cut or colored looked like they enjoyed their jobs and had fun while still getting to be creative. Once I realized I wasn’t going to make it as a musician and college wasn’t for me, I took the dive and got a front desk job at my current salon back in 2011. Immediately, I knew I wanted to do hair and specialize in cutting and I never looked back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I was lucky in the fact that I loved the hair industry right away. The apprenticeship program at Osgood Oneil is intense and very, very difficult. The hardest part for me so far though was being in an accident that led to a severe knee injury. Coming back from that and working back to being a full-time stylist was once of the hardest things I’ve had to do.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m at the lover’s lane location of Osgood-Oneil Salons right outside of Downtown Dallas in Highland Park. I’ve been a cutting specialist there for six years now. I work on all hair types but I’ve definitely become known for working with very long and thick hair as well as super short hair and razor work. The environment of our salon is based on continuing education for our stylist and colorists, as well as teaching our new talent and apprentices. This is definitely what the salon is known for as well as excellent customer service for our clients.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a pretty rambunctious kid and teenager and played drums in bands non stop from the time I was 13 until I was around 21 or 22. It was the most fun and me and my friends and bandmates definitely got into a little bit of trouble. Innocent stuff of course!!!
