Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaiya P. Horton.
Kaiya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was sitting in my apartment in Stillwater, OK thinking about a lot of my past experiences and decisions. I had so many goals and dreams but I lacked the motivation that I needed to start. Every time I started them I would stop and not finish. I doubted that I was capable of completing these goals and the fear of failure that caused me to stop every time.
After self-reflecting, I realized that I could be the motivator or advocate for women and encourage them to walk fearlessly into their purpose. I started writing blogs in 2015 off and on. When I moved to Dallas, I discovered that in these past three years God was preparing me to walk in my purpose as a professional blogger, author, and public speaker. This time was different because I knew that this is what God has called me to do in this world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me at all. Over the past few years, I have experienced a lot of life changes and I often would hit a writer’s block. I would not have any content for days, weeks and even months. One of the main struggles that I dealt with was not having the resources to enhance my blog or the manpower to consistently produce content while fulfilling my other roles. Once I started networking and researching with other bloggers I was able to seek cost-efficient tools to help me make my blog more appealing and enhance my writing skills.
Another challenge that I faced was deciding between my Jewelry business Vintage Executives and blogging. I came to the realization that making jewelry is a gift, however, motivating women is my purpose. The time that I was spending making jewelry was taking away from my blog, writing my book, and going to different places to encourage women. I will eventually bring the jewelry business back but I have a different vision for it.
Kaiya P. Horton – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a motivational blogger, author, and public speaker for women. My content is Faith-based and it targets young adult women that are battling life challenges such as depression, doubt, trauma from past experiences and juggling their roles as a woman while walking into their purpose.
I specialize in motivation and inspiration by producing raw and relatable messages that assist women in their day to day lives. I am known for writing about the areas that people don’t want to talk about or address but it needs to be acknowledged in order for us as women to succeed together.
My main goal is to end society’s false image that all women do is gossip, complain and tear each other down and replace it with empowered and positive women that walk fearlessly in their purpose while encouraging other women on their way to success. I am so excited about the positive atmosphere that I am creating on my blog. As time goes on, I see more and more women interacting through my blogs and lifting each other up with positivity.
What sets me apart from others is that I can relate to many different women because of my journey in life. From being a first-generation graduate, playing college sports, and being a new wife and mother allows me to relate to the challenges that many women are facing. This shows them that there is someone that is experiencing the same things but I still choose to go after my purpose no matter what obstacles I face.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The moment that touched my heart the most was when I received the opportunity to be the speaker for Women’s Day at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK. The long hours of preparation and studying not only brought me closer to God but it showed me what I was capable of. When the time came for me to stand up in front all of the amazing women in attendance, it was like everything just came to me naturally. In that moment, I heard God say, “This is what you were called to do.” Once I finished, so many women of all different ages came up and told me how much they related to the message and I began to be invited to many different places to empower women.
