Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameron Walker.
Hi Kameron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being an Artist was something I knew was always a spiritual gift I possessed, and painting over time has continually progressed my work into something more expressive and contemporary. From starting out as a gallery attendant while doing group shows, being awarded grant and art presentations at the Dallas Art Museum, not to mention art handling collectors’ private collections in Highland Park, I have truly witnessed part of the art world through a rearview mirror. I can only hope my efforts of being recognize evermore as an artist takes me further in my career internationally.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! If anything, I’m still learning how to master the art of patience to this day. Oftentimes, I struggle with my anxious desires of climbing that ladder of success. As an emerging artist, being overlooked or told no hundreds of times has made me the more resilient in pursuit of recognition. Acknowledging the extreme complexities of the art world, its depths as a tight circle and secret society is further proof that only a handful of artists actually leave their mark. However, in belief I’m thoroughly enjoying the process in my journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My work encapsulates figurative portraits in acrylic that conveys emotion through recognizing the inner relation of black culture. What sets me apart from others is the narrative concepts that pulls you in once you gaze upon it. My exploration through color, forms of light, and texture in my brushwork makes the establishment of my paintings all the difference: refined, critical, and explosive. I’m most proud of my perspective in life and the ways it inspires my work daily. Which inevitably will be the key to my success as a famous artist.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
A wise man once told me, from one artist to another, always “keep producing”; eventually, the hours you put into your craft will undoubtably pay off in the end. So, no matter where you are, just start creating. Also, consider what you want to achieve when you’re creating art long-term. Some artists are content at being a teacher, art handler or has higher dreams of making it internationally. Regardless of the road you take, define what success for you as an artist is, and once you envisioned it, believe it has already happened for you and pursue it with no hesitations or fears.
