Meet Kammie Savidge of Lake Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kammie Savidge

Hi Kammie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with a cell phone and a love of the old and forgotten. Things that reminded me of my grandparents and my great aunts and uncles who taught me the value of appreciating all of the little things. Abandoned buildings, old cars, bugs, flowers, and wildlife that people tend to pay no attention to. And of course, documenting memories of candid moments with my family.

I got my first camera, I found a mentor online through a social media group, and for the past four years have been working diligently at learning how to be better. Photography gives me the opportunity to volunteer and bring awareness to specific issues, it allows me to create lasting memories, it allows me to be the face of Jesus, and it allows me to build relationships with amazing people.

Ultimately, my goal is to serve others. It’s about capturing the real smiles and putting people at ease and knowing that you’ve brought joy to someone else through the work that you’re doing for them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a roller coaster to say the least. Learning editing skills, camera settings, being able to take constructive criticism. I’m trying to turn a part-time business into a full-time business while currently doing a full-time job and parent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One of the things most people recognize would be my nature photography. As I have grown, however, being easy to work with is one of the best compliments I have been given. I would say my specialty would be children and nature. I’ve always been told that I have to have a niche; to be honest I don’t. I want to be able to be flexible and provide a multitude of services to different needs. I’m most proud of not giving up. I’m most proud that people trust me to fill a need.

I have been told that what sets me apart from others is being able to capture the emotional and heartfelt moments. That when you see the photographs, you also feel them. That makes me overflow with joy because that’s what it’s all about; being able to tell a story in a moment.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is definitely something that I have done. (In my mind) Every time I do a different genre I’m taking a risk. From food photography to nature photography to people. All of these are approached differently, and you have to be creative. I would say that I do not take quite as many risks as maybe I should. There are times I play it safe just because I don’t want to disappoint. You know it’s that human thing. But I’m getting better! One risk that I have yet to take is a large wedding. It may not be the same risk as jumping out of an airplane, but personally for me that’s how I view it.
