Today we’d like to introduce you to Kammiel Harvey.
Kammiel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually got into makeup as a teenager because I was insecure of my looks growing up. Like many other teenage girls, I would constantly be in the mirror looking for flaws and wanting to “fix” them. So one day I went to the closest Walgreens near my house and picked up a really cheap foundation and a hideous lipstick lol and got home and decided to transform myself. I looked terrible! Lol (but you couldn’t tell me otherwise at the time) and from that point on, I had opened the door to a whole new world, a creative one that I had so much passion and love for. I began practicing on myself, friends, family members just for fun. I then began to take it more seriously, enrolled in an esthetics program here in Dallas, where I learned the importance of skin and how it goes hand in hand with flawless makeup application. While in the program, I began to love myself and my own skin without all the glam, but in the process, I found a new love for enhancing women’s natural beauty and Helping them to feel beautiful and confident while doing so. After many years of practice and educating myself, I decided to enter the world of makeup artistry and make a dream a reality.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, Goodness, no lol. My road has probably been more bumpy than most. In a world where social media rules, it’s easy to scroll down your timeline and compare your success and talent to others who are doing what you are doing. And that can be discouraging. And I’ve had moments like that. More often than not. But every time I try to walk away from it or say I’m not doing makeup anymore, I have a slew of people hitting me up for makeup! Lol, I have come to learn and walk in the fact that my journey and success is my own, it has nothing to do with or is dictated by anyone else but myself. I truly believe I am an underdog and a hidden little secret in Dallas and I’m ok with that. I believe we all start somewhere and this is just my start. My time will soon come. I trust that.
We’d love to hear more about FACE IT Makeup Artistry.
FACE IT makeup artistry is my new little baby lol. While I’ve been doing makeup for about eight years, I’ve never settled on a name or motto like most artists have. But my delay comes from me being a perfectionist lol. I didn’t want to give life to a business that I couldn’t fully and consistently nurture. And make as close to perfect as possible lol. I believe my business is definitely a reflection of me. And I want every client I encounter new and old to see that and experience that when they meet me.
The name FACE IT came about because 1. makeup is pro dominantly about the face, and 2. It’s a proud reminder To myself and clients that with or without makeup, FACE IT, you are beautiful. Although my business is a budding one, I am most proud of the lasting impression I leave on people I come in contact with. The endless outpour of praise and satisfaction gives me all the validation I need to know that my talent is a gift. I may not be everybody’s first choice, but I’m somebody’s choice and I’m grateful for that.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that Dallas puts on for its people. No matter who you are. They always show love. I don’t have many dislikes about the city. I believe if you’re good to it, it’ll be good to you.
