Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamran Hussain.
Kamran, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I had terrible flat feet. In college, I came to a point that I couldn’t stand for more than 5 minutes at a time and I noticed that I was starting to walk more and more on the outside part of my shoes. I had tried several OTC inserts, which I was wearing out in about 2 weeks. I decided to see someone about my foot and came across a profession called “podiatry.” I essentially made an appointment and saw a podiatrist. I became very curious about the profession and started to shadow this podiatrist. I felt that if I want to pursue my dream in medicine then this is the profession I would like to be a part of.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been born and raised in the Dallas area my whole life. Moving to Cleveland for podiatry school was quite an adjustment. New environment, which is much different than Dallas. Medical school is tough and a lot of long hours were put in to get where I am today.
Advanced Foot Specialists – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
This is a foot and ankle practice. I specialize in limb salvage, heel pain and sports injuries. I try to save toes and feet of diabetics and people with vascular disease. Surgically, I do quite a bit of amputations and trauma on patients such as motorcycle or vehicle accidents. We are most proud of our customer service and being able to communicate and relate to the patients. We never try to feel above anyone. We take our time with patients. These are real people with problems and sometimes they have a lot of other personal issues in their life and they just want someone to listen to them.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success means being able to reach your goal. Waking up and going to work with a smile on your face and knowing that you are enjoying life and the work you do. Helping people and making them happy. Once you have achieved that, then you have found success.
