Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanesha Floyd and Jasmine Allen.
Kanesha and Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Seven years ago, we started as a stylist (Jasmine Allen)/client (Kanesha Floyd) duo. Jasmine is a local hairstylist that has been serving the metroplex for over ten years specializing in weave and braiding styles. I am an IT Consultant for an ERP software company with over 15 years of software implementation experience. We come from two different backgrounds but our love for quality extensions, weaves, and wigs created a bond and planted a seed that would blossom.
About two years ago, we decided to transform our stylist/client relationship into a partnership and develop our own line of quality hair extensions that we wanted to be affordable for the average client and a way to allow a one-stop-shop for clients who were being serviced by Jasmine. Our partnership is well-crafted so that Jasmine is responsible for daily operations, product logistics, and marketing while I handle all business-related tasks such as accounting, budgeting, and website maintenance.
Jazzy Jewelz Hair is a name that describes our extensions perfectly. We played around with many names for our hairline but we decided on Jazzy Jewelz Hair Boutique because we want our customers to feel jazzy when wearing our extensions and the quality of our hair is as good as fine jewelry.
We currently are a web-based company that stocks Raw Filipino and Brazilian texture extensions and closures. We want to continue to expand by offering other hair textures along with frontals, custom wig construction, and other hair accessories needed to keep your extensions fresh. Our ultimate goal is to eventually open a physical location so that our customers can personally shop with us and pick up their extensions on demand.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a long road to get to where we are. Finding a good supplier to supply the quality extensions we desired was definitely a chore. Wed wanted to make sure we were selling the best raw hair that we could find, Also, getting financial resources for the startup cost and marketing/promotions are some of the other struggles that we endured and are still working through.
Please tell us about Jazzy Jewelz Hair Boutique.
Jazzy Jewelz Hair Boutique is a web-based company that offers raw and virgin hair extensions that are free of dye, chemicals, colors, or bleach. Our low maintenance extensions are extremely manageable, have amazing luster and sheen, and easy to style. The texture and curl patterns offered include but are not limited to Filipino slight wave (straight), Filipino natural wave, and Brazilian deep wave. We are most proud of offering high-quality hair extensions at an affordable price.
The Filipino texture that we offer sets us apart from the rest of the competition. Most extension brands offer Indian, Brazilian, and Malaysian textures but very few offer the Filipino texture which is naturally a thicker texture that blends very easily and makes a fuller bundle.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We initially started selling our extensions by word of mouth and social media. It wasn’t until we launched our website that we started gaining customers from other regions and states. If we could do it all over again, we would definitely establish our e-commerce platform first before we officially launch. It was difficult just selling from social media and coordinating the pick up/delivery. We saw that it became much easier to manage the logistics and keep inventory when we launched our website.
