Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Barker.
Hi Kara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
“Hey there, I’m Kara Barker—and I like to say I live at the intersection of purpose, leadership, and faith.”
I didn’t just stumble into leadership—I grew through it. Over the past 20+ years, I’ve led transformational work across a variety of industries, championing growth, equity, and impact. But what lights me up most is helping women step fully into who they are—and then go even further.
I’m the CEO and Founder of EmpowHER Consulting—a space where women are coached, seen, and elevated. I’m also the voice behind The Hello MaximizHer Podcast, where I create space for real talk about purpose, breakthrough, and bold leadership.
I’ve written two devotional journals for women—Hallelujahs and Hiccups and Breakthroughs and Bless You’s—because I believe spiritual wellness and professional growth go hand in hand. And as a featured writer on the YouVersion Bible App, I’m humbled that my words have traveled around the world in over 1,000 languages.
But here’s what you won’t find on a résumé: I’m a passionate advocate for women and girls. Whether mentoring through Girls Inc., speaking on global platforms, or building REALationships alongside my husband in our digital marriage ministry—I show up with heart, grit, and authenticity.
I’ve been honored by LinkedIn as a “Leader to Follow,” and featured in Voyage Dallas Magazine for my work in DEIB, wellness, and leadership—but what matters most to me is impact. Real lives changed. Real confidence built. Real women rising.
I hold a BA in Psychology, a Master’s in Organizational Leadership, and a few powerful letters behind my name (CLU, CPCU)—but more than anything, I’m committed to showing up fully. As a wife, a mother of three amazing kids, and a woman of faith, I bring all of me to every space I walk into.
Because when you lead with purpose and live with intention, there’s no limit to the breakthrough that’s possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close. But every bump taught me something.
One of my biggest struggles along the way was battling imposter syndrome. Even with all the degrees, certifications, and leadership roles, I often found myself second-guessing if I really belonged in certain rooms—or if I was just “playing the part.” I would shrink, stay quiet, or overwork to prove my worth—until I realized: I’m not here by accident. I’m here on assignment.
Breaking free from that mindset wasn’t overnight. It took mentorship, faith, therapy, and reminding myself constantly that I don’t have to be everything to do something meaningful. I learned to stop outsourcing my confidence and start owning my voice.
That shift is what fuels everything I do now—coaching women, speaking truth, and helping others confront their own inner critic. Because the struggle is real—but so is the power on the other side of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hello, MaximizHer!. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I wear a few hats—but at the core, I’m a Life Strategist, a podcast host, and a storyteller with a deep passion for helping women unlock what’s already inside them.
Through my company EmpowHER Consulting, I coach high-capacity women who are ready to stop playing small and start walking fully in purpose. Whether they’re navigating a major pivot, fighting burnout, or simply asking, “What’s next for me?”—I help them get clear, get confident, and get moving.
I also host The Hello MaximizHer Podcast, where I amplify real stories of women who are leading, healing, growing, and transforming. It’s become a global community of women who are done surviving—and ready to maximize.
I’m known for three things: storytelling, creativity, and compassion. I create space for honesty, bring heart to strategy, and help others find their voice in the middle of their mess or momentum. My words are intentional. My impact is layered. And everything I create—whether a journal, a keynote, or a coaching call—is rooted in authenticity.
One of my proudest recent moments? Securing the trademark for Hello MaximizHer. That name started as a podcast, but it’s become a movement. Now, it’s a protected brand that represents empowerment, elevation, and excellence. It’s a reminder that women don’t need to hustle for validation—we just need to maximize who we already are.
What sets me apart isn’t just what I do—it’s how I show up. I lead with faith, I listen deeply, and I believe every woman has a story worth telling—and a life worth maximizing.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t just about titles, accolades, or how full your calendar is. Success is about impact—how many lives are better because you showed up.
I define success as the ability to grow through adversity and come out stronger, wiser, and more aligned on the other side. Some of my most successful moments didn’t look like wins at first—they looked like setbacks, silence, or seasons of stretching. But those were the moments that built my resilience and deepened my purpose.
I also see success in the growth of others. When I coach a woman who finally sees herself clearly, or watch someone I’ve mentored take a bold leap—that’s success. When I share a story on the podcast and someone messages me, saying, “That was the breakthrough I needed”—that’s success.
Success is becoming the person you were created to be, and helping others do the same.
