Meet Karey Pustejovsky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karey Pustejovsky.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Richardson, Texas and graduated from J.J. Pearce High School. After graduation I went to Texas State University in San Marcos where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I taught 3rd grade for 7 years and decided to go back to school to get my Master’s degree in Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. I became an elementary school librarian at a new school in Frisco. It was truly a dream come true. My husband and I had our first little boy and I decided I needed to be at home with him. Kids change everything!

Being a stay at home mom was a big adjustment for me. There were days at the beginning when we didn’t leave the house for the whole day or a Target trip was a big outing. I quickly found out that getting up and getting ready each day helped me stay sane. A lot of my old clothes weren’t appropriate for my new life as a stay at home mom and I had to adjust my personal style, but also found it a lot harder to shop for myself with a baby. Online shopping became my new way of shopping.

Just before we had our second son, we moved to Prosper, Texas. I wanted to be able to still provide for my family, but also wanted to be home with my kids. Prosper is an amazing community with lots of families and women just like me who are looking for cute clothes on a budget. I saw the need and opened K & Blue Boutique!

Please tell us about your art.
K & Blue Boutique is a women’s clothing boutique that is run out of my home in Prosper, Texas. I offer free local pickup and ship nationwide daily. Since all of my business is done on Facebook and I do not have a storefront, I am able to keep my prices as low as possible. That is really important to me because everyone deserves to be able treat themselves every once in a while, without spending a lot of money! When we look good, we feel good! People share all the time how easy the shopping experience is when they shop with me and I love that I can provide that for them.

As a buyer, I try to find clothes that work for a variety of styles and people while keeping up with fashion trends. K & Blue Boutique offers everything from t-shirts to fun, date night styles to professional styles for work. I absolutely love seeing people in their purchases around town or in pictures shared on Facebook. Knowing that they are enjoying their new clothes enough to choose to wear them means I have done my job.

The “K” in K & Blue Boutique represents the first letter of my husband’s and my names and the “Blue” represents my two boys. It truly is a family business. It’s so fun to be able to do something I love that is conducive to being home with my kids. I really hope people understand that shopping at K & Blue Boutique is not only supporting a small business, but also supporting a dream.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge for me is figuring out how to balance family and work. Since I don’t have a store with set hours, orders come in at all hours of the day and night. I am the buyer, accountant, customer service rep, stock manager, and sales person for K & Blue Boutique, but I’m also a mom of two sweet boys and a wife to a wonderful husband who all need me also. I think that’s something that anyone who works and has a family struggles with and I think it’s especially hard when you work from home.

Keeping in tune to what my customers are wanting is another challenge. I follow trends closely, but that doesn’t always translate to what customers are wanting to purchase. I love when a customer requests something they’ve seen a blogger feature or something they found on Pinterest. Usually if one person has seen it and likes it, others do too! Everyone is really busy and my job is to find cute, trendy styles for them at reasonable prices.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
K & Blue Boutique is on Facebook and Instagram. All in stock, new arrivals are posted for sale in limited quantities inside the group and items are restocked as needed. It’s as easy as commenting with your size and email address and I send you an invoice. I hope you’ll check it out and share with your friends. I truly think there is something for everyone.
