Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Sanders.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Then I apprenticed under Christopher Walker salon. There I worked under two veteran artist that were at the top of their craft. One specializing in color and women’s cuts and the other in men’s cuts. I quickly moved up in the company becoming the Artistic assistant director where I helped oversee all shows and events.
After my departure from the salon, I quickly moved onto Esoterica Studios in fort worth. Following under his education program, I gained my knowledge for the ever growing and changing market the industry experienced about six years ago. I then joined the Sebastian/Wella team traveling and education all of the south Texas region. Under their umbrella, I was able to gain knowledge in color corrections, color theory, and overall product awareness and knowledge.
A career change moved me into a lease space called Panther City Salon. Here is where I branded myself as ‘For.Non.Blondes’ and my career blossomed. I created an assistant program training new and old hairdressers what I’ve had the experience of learning. The core group of Panther City (the og’s) built the name from the ground up. Quickly becoming recognized and awarded ‘The Best Salon in Fort Worth.
As I’ve continued to grow I’ve changed my mindset and looking for that next level. Novak Hair Studios is that evolution. Here I plan to take my career to the next level. Creating my very own education class system, and pushing education to the next generation of hairdressers.
I’m not even close to being done and there is nothing stopping me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha. Thats comical. I will say I’ve been very lucky along the way. I immediately started as an apprentice and learned so much from my first two mentors. I set goals for myself for where I wanted to be and made sure to make those goals happen. Doing this got me hired at my dream salon, hired onto the sebastain team and then went out on my own creating a brand for myself.
It wasn’t easy and it required a lot of hours but that’s just part of being successful. Now I help new stylist find their way to success through my coaching business.
The biggest obstacle faced was raising two kids and supporting a husband through school all while building my name and my knowledge.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about For Non Blondes at Novak Hair Studios – what should we know?
I am a fort worth local, blonding specialist, stylist coaching, founder of ‘blondettes’ and owner of Instagram page @for.non.blondes
I am proud of how I have grown in the last four years, starting an assistant program, training multiple successful hairdressers. Building my own brand and learning the art of marketing. Along while working behind the chair mastering the blonding experience.
I set myself apart like I always have, pushing the envelope and never accepting my current status.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Probably my drive and determination for more. I love not accepting where I am at and always working to become better.
