Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Norman.
Karla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working in the corporate world behind a desk for many years, I decided I wanted to do something more with my life. So at 48 I went back to school. I had gone to college right out of High School but life got in the way Marriage, Kids, etc, I had 2 years of nursing school and wanted something along those lines. I decided on Massage Therapy.
I graduated in 2014 and started working for a local salon. The salon moved into a very small building soon after. The environment wasn’t really what I wanted for my clients. I wanted more of a spa feeling. I am now rent my own space inside a building in Burleson.
One side is a tax & investment office, the other is suites that are rented to various businesses. It has worked out wonderful. At first, I wasn’t sure I could do this on my own, it was a bit scary to have my own business. So now I have a thriving massage practice. I have recently received my certification for Medical Massage Practitioner. I absolutely love helping people, it is such an amazing feeling. Massage is therapy not just for the body but for the mind and soul as well. Follow your dream and believe in yourself and you can accomplish anything.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was thrown into being on my own sooner than I thought I was ready. A counseling center wanted me to work for them and so I did. We were to become a wellness center. Well I guess our ideas weren’t the same. They brought me in and weren’t completely honest with me, I found out later. So in a short period (3 Mo) I went from contracted to self-employed. I wasn’t ready for this and not sure I could do it on my own. Looking back, it was the best thing that happened.
Please tell us about KD Wellness Services.
I am a wellness provider. I specialize in Therapeutic Massage. Each client is special to me. I strive to give a treatment designed especially for them. I also specialize in Medical Massage. I am able to help clients who have specific problems such as frozen shoulder, whiplash, and other various soft tissue injuries. I feel that I am set apart from the others by the services I provide. Each massage is specialized the client. And also in the environment that I provide. I am not located in a hair salon, It is very private and safe environment for me and my clients. More and more people are searching for alternative treatment to alleviate pain. I am here for them. Relax the Mind, Renew the Body, Revive the Soul.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The weekends we spent at the lake in New Mexico.
