Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Couch.
Kat, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been interested in the studio arts and pursued a degree in interior design. A year ago, I decided to pursue my arts passion a little more and began selling my work. As a Dallas-based artist and designer, I began painting and sketching as a kid and have since explored multiple mediums including welding and wood working. My passion for architecture and furniture continually inspires me to learn and grow as an artist. Currently, my body of work includes photography mixed with digital graphics to create a pop-style aesthetic of casual and traditional elements.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenges have ultimately been my own fears and apprehensions. After that, it’s just logistics and strategy… I hope to figure those out, too one day. Lol!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Milquetoast Designs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Primarily a photographer and illustrator, I sell art prints and products with my works. Largely influenced by pulp fiction, pop art and mid-century graphics my interest is to romanticize scenes that might otherwise be seen as banal and overlooked. Through artificial elements and pop art, I try to create a fabricated nostalgia to otherwise ordinary scenes.
I’m proud at how my work is simple in nature but applicable to a variety of styles and tastes. I don’t like to confine myself to any one particular style and so, I allow myself to explore and with that, it’s always changing and being redefined within the context of inspiration.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the vibe and variety of Dallas. It is colorful with extremes of all kinds and still has a unified resonating sense of life and excitement. Plus, most amazing food joints always popping up.
Least: My tires are dying fast from pot holes.
