Today we’d like to introduce you to Katey Plummer.
Katey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Louisiana. I was previously a pediatric oncology nurse and then received my Nurse Practitioner degree in which I am currently practicing now. I have a husband, Casey and three children Caroline, Coates, and Katherine. I started painting one day when I really just had some walls in my house that needed filling. Slowly but surely, I started building up a collection and, after lots of encouragement, put them for sale. The support of my art has been overwhelming to say the least. Abstract art has been such an amazing outlet for me as a wife and mother. All of my hopes, prayers, and dreams make up each piece. Painting creates a way for me to express myself in a way nothing else does.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The hardest struggle I have had through all of this is trying to balance painting with a job and a home. My children are young and are still at home full time so balancing time with them and also getting some painting in during the week is tricky.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I am known for “happy art.” Most of the time, when a client emails me they want something bright and cheery to brighten up a wall or space. I do all the original abstract. I do some watercolors but my main focus is on acrylic/canvas. My favorite part of my work is after a client has received a piece and lets me know how it adds so much to their room.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been very independent, driven, and motivated. I loved sports, acting, and being creative. I was always painting, coloring, or making something as a child. Everything always needed a big production. Haha
