Meet Katisha Pace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katisha Pace.

Katisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been cooking my whole life. It began in my grandmother’s kitchen back in Hope, Arkansas. As a little girl, I loved watching and helping my grandmother cook. She didn’t have much, but she knew how to use what little she had to make a delicious homemade meal. She seemed so joyful in the kitchen cooking and it inspired my own love for cooking. She taught me to cook from scratch and to this day, I love creating and recreating recipes.

The idea for the blog came after my son was born. I had been taking pictures and videos of my cooking creations for years, but I now needed a creative outlet. One day on a whim, I decided to create an Instagram account with the purpose of sharing pictures of my creations in hopes that I could help at least one person feel comfortable making a homemade meal. After sharing a few pictures, I decided I wanted to give blogging a shot. I love Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets, but I wanted to own my content.

The blog just launched on June 29th and I only have a few posts, but I have plans for many more. I want to inspire others to be confident in the kitchen, just like my grandmother did for me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I bought the domain for my website back in February and had plans to launch in April, but having a very active baby made things a little difficult. And on top of that, I decided to go back to work after being a stay at home mom. Because of that, I had very little time to build the website and work on the content. I eventually put it on the back burner for a while and thought maybe now wasn’t the time to start a blog.

I still don’t really have the time, but I’m so determined that I wake up early and stay up late to work on the website, edit pictures, and work on blog posts.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My blog, www.essentiallykpace.com, specializes in creating fun homemade meals. I sometimes like to think about things I ate as a child, like sloppy joes, and figure out a way to make it taste better and make the sauce from scratch. A childhood favorite of mine is a hamburger helper. I never paid attention to the ingredients as a child, but as an adult, I remember looking at the ingredient list and not being able to pronounce a lot of the ingredients. I set out to figure out a way to make it with ingredients that I could actually pronounce, and after much trial and error, I came up with a recipe that not only tastes better but also costs about the same and takes the same amount of time to make as the box.

My juices are always flowing. I’m someone that enjoys cooking soul food, but also enjoys making a charcuterie board. I also love to get creative with baked goods. I don’t like to box myself into one particular style of cooking, and that’s what I believe sets me apart from others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I really don’t think I would have done anything differently. Although I have had some struggles along the way, I believe that is what has kept me going.
