Today we’d like to introduce you to Kawon Jones.
Kawon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Kawon Jones and I’m a visual artist based out of Atlanta, GA. Art was a part of my life early on. At a young age, I realized I could re-create what I saw on TV. Based on that realization, I took inspiration from the current scene of cartoons and animation, like The Simpsons created by Matt Groening. From there, drawing became my thing. My classmates would always ask, “Kawon, can you draw this? Can you draw that?” It became a talent and skill that stuck with me. I won various art competitions and awards throughout grade school. By my senior year in high school, I was voted Most Talented by my peers. From there, I attended the Art Institute of Atlanta, where I studied multimedia arts and animation. Today, I still use the skills I’ve accumulated over the years in my teaching of visual arts and to create multimedia designs, logos, animations, graphic designs and illustrations.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I never let go of the dream of being a professional artist, but yes, there were some struggles. The main struggle was that I saw the dream as something that would not happen until later down the road. There were times where I didn’t think I would make it in the art field to be known as a creative so I wasn’t being consistent and constantly creating and engaging in the art world. I had to learn to evolve while remaining consistent.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
My business is a general service for creatives providing graphic designs, logos, and customized canvases for paint parties. I also create a lot of content for the students I teach and take pride in creating content that centers African American studies, giving my students relatable content. I serve as a curator for a few different organizations and art shows in Atlanta. As a company, I am most proud of being the artist my clients choose to reach out to when they need projects done. The main thing that sets me apart from others would have to be my personality. Clients always comment on my personality and how easy I am to work with throughout the creative process. In addition to my personality, my artwork stands out as being colorful, bright, engaging and sometimes thought-provoking pieces.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as continued growth as a company as a brand. Markers of that success include customer satisfaction, return clientele, and developing long-lasting relationships beyond business.
