Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaye Young.
Hi Kaye, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My start in the real estate industry actually started as a mortgage loan officer assistant when I was living in Las Vegas, NV. At the time I had no vision of where I wanted to be and I had no experience in mortgage at all. I worked for 2 years for a high ranking loan officer and eventually obtained my mortgage license in Nevada. I felt like I had learned enough to work for myself or at least try to see if I could do it on my own.
It was hard because at the time there was no real training on what you really needed to know to be an MLO. Luckily, I found a small company that had seasoned loan officers to learn from one on one. I ended up becoming a high ranking LO myself and became licensed in over 12 states.
However, the company closed down so I decided to take a break for a while just to travel. I had several job offers but when I came back from a trip in Argentina, they either dissolved or I quickly found out they were not at all what I thought they were.
The market was saturated, my love life was non-existent, my friends were moving on with their careers and relationships and my life was at a complete standstill. I knew I needed to make a move to start over and I was set to do a final interview with a bank in Washington but I just didn’t feel good about it so, I prayed on it and asked God where to go. The answer I received was Dallas, TX.
This is a place I would’ve never thought of but I was licensed there and TX has all kinds of opportunities in mortgage and real estate. Three months later I was there! While working as a loan officer, I was interested in pursing real estate as a possible side hustle. Again, not really knowing where I’d be going with it. Once I became licensed as a realtor I realized that I could start my own company for investment properties.
I partnered up with my (now husband) and we created KG Realty Group, LLC. We’re now working with partners to help clients with credit restoration, mortgage lending, insurance, etc. and we’re also growing as real estate investors. Everything I’ve learned over the years has really come into play with making us a great company. I’m excited to know what the future holds.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Oh, no! Before I came to Dallas, everything seemed to be falling apart in my life in Vegas. The house I was renting the owner decided to sell the property, during that time the mortgage company closed down, then my father became critically ill and passed away on my mom’s birthday, which was devastating. My parents lived in Indianapolis, IN (my hometown), so I was flying back and forth from IN to NV to help my mom.
At the same time, my money was depleting and I couldn’t find anywhere to live. Luckily, my best friend came in like Wonder Woman and let me and my 2 dogs stay with her. Which was great but I hate asking for help and felt like such a failure. When I finally did get a new gig it was barely enough to live off of. Then one of my dogs was diagnosed with cancer. When I finally found a job in Dallas, I had just enough money to get me started until I could get my first paycheck.
But I stuck with it because I knew God sent me to Texas for a reason and usually when your life is in complete chaos that means there’s something awesome on the other end. And I’m glad I did, I met my husband out here, learned a lot about myself and now I’m an entrepreneur!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about KG Realty Group?
KG Realty Group is a multi-service company that helps to connect buyers with cash offers for home purchases along with helping with financial education. We are not a licensed broker, however, I am a licensed REALTOR with Biggs Realty, where I assist people in finding homes and/or sell their existing properties and locate new purchases in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We’re not just about real estate.
We care about what’s going on in the DFW and surrounding areas. That’s why we also feature videos on my YouTube and website on what other entrepreneurs are doing in their communities. I’m proud that I have extensive knowledge in mortgage lending as well as real estate. As a REALTOR this helps my clients to be educated and confident throughout the entire process. KGRG wants to inspire a positive and long lasting relationship with our clients and the community.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
When I was little, I was introverted but once you got me talking I wouldn’t shut up. In my teenage years you could say I hung out with the wrong crowd but it depended on who you talked to because I had different sets of friends. I hated school and would avoid it at any cost. My younger self would’ve never in her life dreamed that she’d be living the life she is now. I actually had ambitions to go into audio production after high school.
I loved music and art and thought that was the industry I’d be in; even though I have no artistic skills whatsoever. My best friend (who I met in pre-school) and still friends to this day always kept me in line even when I would get in some crazy situations. I still love music and still a risk taker so, I guess life worked itself out.
