Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Clay.
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I haven’t always been in this space that I’m currently in. Growing up in a small town in Vicksburg, MS and not to mention being shy; there were not a lot of beauty services available to me and my peers. Ultimately, this led to my decision to move to the city where there were more options on everything. A little back story, I moved to Dallas in 2013 with my three wonderful children to pursue a career in the healthcare field. Although, I am still very passionate about my healthcare career. I’ve always been interested in self-care and the beauty industry.
I was always the friend, sister, and cousin who recommended the latest skin care products and just making sure the girls were taking care of themselves. Being a mom most times, this is put on the back burner. But not with me! Self- care comes in more forms than make-up and aesthetics it’s almost being in- tuned with yourself, eating well, exercising, and getting the rest we need to provide for our families daily. My motto has always been if I’m not well how can I be of service to my little ones or anyone else for that matter. After years of self-care practices, I found myself lashing family members and just loving the way they felt after their appointments. To me making someone feel beautiful is what I am called to do.
My cousin Andrea always told me she could see me someday owning my own studio or beauty bar because of my passion for the service and that’s how it all started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been the smoothest journey being that I do in fact work a fulltime job, currently studying for Sonography, and a fulltime mom of three. It is anything but smooth. I think what keeps me going is mostly my children and the love for what I do!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about F.I.N.E.S.S.E Beauty Bar?
F.I.N.E.S.S.E Beauty Bar is named after my late brother who passed away last year 2020. After putting much thought into my business name, I wanted a name the meant something to me and my family. My late brother was a jack of all trades but his passion was music. “Finesse” was his name he went by in the music industry. One day after a long day of work I just remember driving home and not knowing what my business name would be and like a lightning bolt it hit me. What better name than Finesse Beauty Bar. The name has so much meaning and sentimental value to it and I’m all about doing things with a purpose. F.I.N.E.S.S.E stands for Focus, Internally, Never, Settle, Supersede, Expectations. This is what I live by so that is how the name of my business came about.
I offer mobile services to the DFW area, specializing in Lash and Brow Artistry. I want people to know even though there are many lash and brow services around the DFW area. The service I offer is unique in its own way being that one I am mobile and two customer service is what makes or breaks a business. I pride myself on giving top tier service to my clients and making sure they are happy and feel valued.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is to just go for it! There are so many reasons we make up in our heads as to why we can not do a certain thing when that time could be spent pouring into whatever your interest may be. You won’t know the results if you never try. And if you try and fail, try again. Anything is possible and nothing I do is in vain.
