Meet Kayla Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Jackson.

Kayla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a desire to serve others. As a child, I dreamed of being a nurse and would often perform “procedures” on my grandmother while she took her afternoon nap. These routine procedures typically involved covering my grandmother’s legs with an entire bottle of body lotion and then applying toilet paper. At the age of 5, I honestly thought I was performing major surgery. Although my chosen profession ultimately changed, my passion for serving others persisted. During my sophomore year of college, I became increasingly aware of societal stigmas related to mental health. Shortly thereafter, I knew I wanted to become a social worker. Once I made the decision to obtain my undergraduate degree in Social Work, I took all the necessary steps to obtain my clinical license to provide psychotherapy. After becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I then completed the required training to become a clinical supervisor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been challenges along the way. I’m the first in my family to graduate from college and the first to become a business owner. At times I wanted to give up. I feared anything less than perfection and didn’t want others to view me as a failure. Although now I realize mistakes are unavoidable on the journey to success. I’ve made poor financial decisions, had some serious health scares, and at times lacked confidence in myself.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be my love for entertainment. I’ve always loved the arts and dance. I never hesitated to drop whatever I was doing to perform for my family upon request. As a child, I was fearless and full of tenacity.
