Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla McDowell.
Kayla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In August 2019, I started Dallas Black Bloggers as a way to meet new bloggers. Upon attending local events, I noticed there was a void missing within the blogger community. The main thing was it was not welcoming for newcomers. And that’s how Dallas Black Bloggers was created.
To this day, the response has been outstanding. We have showcased many events, including meetups, brunches, and photoshoots. Our bloggers have created meaningful relationships amongst themselves and that is really a rewarding experience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far so good! The only issue we have is our events sell out in a matter of days! In which case, we don’t have the opportunity for everyone to come out and say hi. But the #DBB community supports us in any way possible and encourages us to host more events. Which is a good thing!

Dallas Black Bloggers is a platform of incredible opportunities for creating, learning, and meeting new bloggers within the Dallas area. We seek to connect bloggers with one another in hopes of increasing positivity and allowing a safe haven for creatives to learn and grow their craft.
I am most proud of the real friendships and relationships that have formed outside of the immediate #DBB community. That is a real treasure. To see bloggers collaborating, going to brunch together, or meeting up at other activities puts a smile on my face every time.
