Meet Kayla Mouton-Wright of Kayla Marie Makeup Artistry & Jean-Marie Cosmetics in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Mouton-Wright.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing in makeup as young as five. My mother always wore red lipstick and I’ve grown to love it as well. As I went through high school, we wore uniforms and I wanted to personalize my look. I would curl my hair or wear it straight and I would wear this eye shadow palette by Maybelline and it was so pigmented and bold. I received compliments. I always had a knack for art, so I would play with colors and try new things. It started from being a hobby to capitalizing from my artwork. I started making videos, taking clients, now I am servicing weddings, fashion shows, giving classes, etc. I enjoy it. It’s no longer a job!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth. Is it ever! Lol. My home burned down in June 2018 three days before my wedding. At that time I had written my vision for my businesses down and I told myself once the wedding was over I’d go back where I left off, continue with my plans, and put them into action. I had kits and many tools. All of my plans and supplies burned and I had to start over. It was one of the worst times of my life. Imagine planning a wedding for a year, placing your dreams on hold, longing for peace and then have to worry about being homeless and your children’s well-being! God has brought me through!

Kayla Marie Makeup Artistry & Jean-Marie Cosmetics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a makeup artist. My talent is wide. I can do special effects, glam looks, natural looks. I teach classes and one on one courses. I love wedding parties because it’s a challenge dealing with so many women at one time. I believe my specialty is natural looks and showing women that they don’t have to be afraid to try new things!

I am proud that I learn and grow with every client. I live for inspiration whether it be good or bad. Someone will teach me something new about life or myself as a woman, mother, wife, and friend. It’s how I bond with clients. What sets me apart is, I didn’t start my cosmetic business solely to make money. I started it because it’s what I know, it’s what I love. If something I have doesn’t suit someone, I won’t take their money. I will, however, strive to meet their needs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is when I took a step out on faith and launched my cosmetic business. I was afraid for so long. I doubted myself, but the moment I said, “Do it” and I did it, it was the greatest feeling ever. I am grateful that I overcame that fear.
