Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I wad a kid, I was obsessed with makeup. The older I got, the more obsessed I became with the beauty industry. I would stay up for hours watching makeup videos and trying out new looks on me or my friends. In high school, I was in cheerleading and loved doing everyone`s makeup. One of my favorite memories was our senior night when the other seniors and I locked ourselves in my room so I could do my own makeup first for once. By that point, it was obvious I would go into the beauty industry. After I graduated the salon professional academy in Fargo, North Dakota, I moved down to Texas where I took up a lash job and was an apprentice. Being an apprentice and having am amazing mentor drove my need to become a mentor to others. At the lash salon, I furthered my lash skills and moved up to trainer but I craved for more. After nearly four years with the salon, I started my lash journey with LASH by Amber Michelle where I am a trainer and master lash artist. As a trainer, I find it amazing to get to help other lash artists further their careers and show them all the tricks I’ve learned.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always. I started out in a corporate business that burned me out the first year. I’d actually left the salon and tried other jobs while still doing lashes on the side. I eventually went back to the salon and found that again my passion was slowly dying because I felt more like a machine than an actual person and that every new “tool” we were learning was something most lash artists had been doing for years and I wanted to always be up on the new trends.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a trainer and master lash artist at LASH by Amber Michelle. I can do anything from lifts and tints to Russian volume and I love to do it all. I am so proud to be apart of a salon that is family owned and cares for you as a person. When LASH opened, the Russell`s took my input into consideration and wanted me to be apart of it. At lash by Amber Michelle, we care about the quality of lashes we produce rather than getting people in and out the door. Through our amazing lash line, Bella lashes, and skincare lines, Oribe and Moroccan oil, we can provide the best quality every to everyone. We also continually look into classes to help further our skills. We are all great artists, but there is always more to learn and new ways to grow no matter if you have been a lash artist for a month or 10 years and I`m always craving to learn more.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I never quit. My career is very important to me and everything I do is for my family. My husband is my biggest supporter and helps me by picking up a lot of slack at home while I strive to be the best I can be at my career. I constantly push myself to learn new techniques and grow in my skills. My ultimate goal is to become an educator who will teach people the importance of lash care.
