Meet Keidrain Brewster of Brewster Logistics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keidrain Brewster.

Hi Keidrain, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I did 13 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. When I got out, I worked at various warehouses and eventually decided to try my hand at trucking. I began driving across the country and loved it. After a while, I began to wonder if I could drive for myself versus working for someone else. I started my own hotshot trucking company.

What started out as just me, one dually truck and one flatbed trailer has turned into a small fleet with five hotshot trucks and trailers and three semis’ with drivers. I’ve also penned two books: “From the Rec Yard to the Streets,” which is an outline of the things I learned in prison and how I was able to apply them to get on my feet once I got out, then “From the Streets to the Suites” which is more about my journey into entrepreneurship and how I rose to success in the business front. Now I spend time trying to embrace others with my background to help them see that they can do anything they put their minds to and their past shouldn’t determine their futures.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I encountered many setbacks and struggles in my personal life as well as in my business life. I talk about some of the struggles in both my books, such as when I first got home how I kept failing my driver’s license test. That may not seem like a big deal but when you just get out of prison, you are starting from the very beginning and something like a driver’s license is necessary for almost anything you need to do. Getting a job, driving to that job, opening a bank account, etc. Then in the business world, I lost so much money when I first started my business because I had no clue what I was doing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brewster Logistics?
Brewster Logistics LLC is my company that I started in 2017. I specialize in what is known as “hotshot trucking,” which is basically a term used to describe a combo of a dually truck with a flatbed trailer. I am known for the fact that I have been able to grow my company with hotshot trucks. What sets my company apart is the fact that I have found a niche in hauling shipping containers. I am most proud of the brand I’ve created because I have made it a wide known fact that I am a felon but still providing excellent, dependable, and reliable service to my customers. Also, I have also extended driving opportunities to other felons. I want everyone to know that Brewster Logistics LLC is a growing force, and soon we will be seen across the nation as the beacon of light for others like myself so they can know that change and transformation is possible.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would for others starting out in business is for them to do their homework before going out there. Seek out mentors if possible. I wish I knew that starting your own business was not going to go exactly the way I thought, but keep pushing your breakthrough might be moments away.
