Meet Kejaun Tate and Channen Henderson of Rebirth Attire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kejaun Tate and Channen Henderson.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A new lease on life, the chance we all deserve. That is it, more or less. It’s not something that just happens, it’s a process. The trial and error, breakthroughs and let downs. Symbolized by the Phoenix, Rebirth is the transformative journey to new beginnings.

Just like every punk band, it started right out the two small apartment… with a couple of pieces of junk lying around, and a vision of a life you deserve. My dad’s the #1 carpet cleaner in my home city, and a major perk of his job is people give them whatever they don’t ant whenever they are moving out. One day he brought home a heat press and from there it was history.

It wasn’t too long before my partner Rifle and I organized a photoshoot with TX photographers: Goose and Judo capturing the 1st of memories within the brand thus birth. Being in college at the time, I had access to mad resources through departments on campus. I started picking up my own skills around the creative cloud and designing for the brand myself.

I always considered myself an idea guy, I think we all do in a certain aspect. But with the established brand, I finally had the opportunity to bring ideas to life. The brand emulating life doesn’t really follow a structure, we do projects when the time you know presents itself. As a brand we’ve done a lot: skate films, SXSW pop up shops, fashion shows, commercial films, athlete sponsorships, panel discussions about our journey as designers, video interviews, etc. pretty much anything we can get our hands on.

To date, I think the most notable accolade as a whole was designing an art exhibition. Rebirth Reality, an art exhibition that explored the integration of augmented and virtual technologies within the environment of art. The art exhibition was featured in an article by Medium, an online publication platform for smart stories and ideas. Throughout the exhibition, patrons were able to interact with the mixed media art exhibition. Using QR codes, we created augmented stations powered by Metaverse technology; we then amplified the experience via immersive stations designed around the first stand alone vR headset, the Oculus Go. The exhibition brought out a sense of innocence amongst the people, no matter the age or background, and forced intellectual engagement between themselves and the environment they were placed in. Aside from the exhibition itself, the environment created dialogue and that was the most rewarding aspect of the whole project. Still to this day, the feeling is surreal, to have so many walks of life show up to experience an exhibition together, creating memories with strangers, breathing life into something new.

In 2020, you can expect more from the brand as a whole. The projects will only open more doors for the public and the designs are only getting better. There are already a couple of big collabs we are working on with Boston and LA artist. So it ‘s safe to say there are big things in store for the new decade.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nah, it hasn’t been smooth so to say. Shit running a business and brand at 29/20 years old you’re bound to fuck the money up here and there. You don’t always make the best decisions, but thats life. You gotta learn from that shit. Cause I’ll be damned if I keep making the same mistakes.

Money was an issue for a while until we learned how to make and manage the sales we were getting online and the personal orders we were being asked to fulfill. After that the obstacles turned into connections to bigger platforms to share the stories and ideas we were cultivating.

The struggles make the brand. The way I look at it is eventually people will want to pay a lot of homeage to the early mistakes. Those will be what separate us in the long run.

Please tell us about Rebirth Attire.
Rebirth operates as a product and service. Rebirth Attire is the product aspect. Rebirth Entire is the service aspect.

Our projects generally fall somewhere under the umbrella of innovation and design. We are known for the clothing we produce, Rebirth Attire which has made its way into publications such as Human Mags, Medium, etc.

As a brand, we also create visuals films and animation storylines. You can YouTube “Rebirth Attire” if you want a real representation of the scale of our project base.

Currently, our only project for our service is he art exhibition wwe hosted and curated.

What were you like growing up?
I was always a little outgoing.

Early I noticed a lot of people were not really the go out on a limb type, so I learned how to be an ice breaker… get people to talk and be themselves if shy.

What can I say it gave me a lot of insight growing up, on life in general. Just the different types of people and the different cultures.

Above all, I valued looking good. My mom was an awarded hairstylist in the city, so walking around raggedegy was never really an option… as long as she could help it, Eventually I grew up and developed my own sense of style and growing up others appreciated it. I was the fly, funny, smart guy.

I could kind of fit in anywhere people said, I mean I did go to a bunch of schools when my dad was going through his real estate phase. So I had to learn to make friends if I didn’t want to always be an outsider.

I spent most of my time outside when I was young, I mean shit thats where all the fun was. Basketball games, slap boxing, tetherball, ding dong ditch, mobbn to McDonalds, I was pretty much like any rugrat born in the 90s.
