Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Clark.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a teacher turned entrepreneur. I taught Fourth Grade, First Grade, and Kindergarten all in a five years span. When I was in the classroom, I learned that I was told WHAT to teach but the materials were not provided. I spent quite a bit of time and money searching and buying worksheets and lesson ideas and found it difficult to find exactly what I was look for. I was looking for things that were fun, cute, and appropriate for the grade level I was teaching at the time. So I started to create my own worksheets to sell. My husband observed the work I was doing and said that I should create my own website with all of my resources. I was terrified and sat on the idea for another year and half before starting Teacher Doodles! I’d been living in Austin, Texas since 2008. My husband and I talked about us moving out of the state since “retired” from teaching. He had a great opportunity in Los Angeles so we closed out our lives in Austin and moved to LA! I love that my website allows me the opportunity to work remotely!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wanted my Teacher Doodles resources to have a theme. I am very particular about how things look so it took quite a minute to create a theme that I really liked. The clipart I use had to be purchased so that was and is taking quite a bit of money but it’s worth it.
Please tell us about Teacher Doodles.
My business is called Teacher Doodles, launched in 2018. We specialize is worksheets for Kindergarten and First Grade Teachers! I am most proud that I went after an idea and have stuck to it this long! My resources are created with not only the child but the teacher as well! I am working on creating a one stop shop for Kinder and First Grade Teachers.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The only thing I would do is start earlier. I am very proud of my work.
