Meet Kelly Hooper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Hooper.

Kelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up with music. Both of my parents are studio musicians and sang jingles for years so I was constantly around it. Since everyone knew my parents were musicians, my dad got a call one day to see if he knew of any DJ”s in the area and for some reason, he told them I could do it. He already had the speakers and LOTS of music from being in radio that I was pretty much set to push play. I made $250 in 2 hours which was ALOT of money in such a short time period for being 22. I began doing small parties and weddings and was mentored by some of the best DJ’s in the wedding/corporate industry. I attended networking events in the DFW area and got to know other vendors and realized this is what I wanted to do forever was be in the entertainment industry.

Before my DJ career, I worked in radio for 4 years for Radio Disney, 97.1 The Eagle, Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, and KSCS. I knew that music had to be apart of my career and have been in business for 10 years.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely was not a smooth road. Lots of hiccups and learning was needed to be a true professional. I was mentored by some of the best DJ’s in the industry and have learned SO much from them as far as tips and tricks to be the best I can be.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
DJ Kelly Hooper is basically a “one woman show.” I specialize in making any and everyone’s event a memory they will hold onto forever. If the client does not have a day of coordinator, I also take on that role and make sure everything runs smoothly as well as make an itinerary that day for me and their vendors. I think what sets me apart from the rest is there aren’t a ton of female DJ’s out there and out of all people, I understand that someone’s wedding is one of the most important things they will ever plan and I strive to really help and walk them through in whatever they need.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We have the most beautiful skyscraper ever and lots of new restaurants are popping up in the area. I love living near White Rock Lake and the Arboretum.

What I don’t like is that there’s too much crime in Deep Ellum and wish there were more security down there.
