Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lott.
Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a massage therapist and massage instructor for 25 years, teaching all over the country to massage therapists with my migraine treatment, face toning massage and pregnancy massage.
I have always wanted to help people with massage who are in pain and so many have headaches.
After watching an interview with an esthetician in Dallas, who commented that so many clients have migraines and wanted something cold on their head. She used eye gel packs, but they didn’t stay cold enough to get rid of the migraine.
It suddenly occurred to me that perhaps cold marble stones would stay cold enough. Ice cream is made on cold marble, so that is where I began the journey to a treatment that would help people with migraines. I spent the next year doing research on migraines and learning all that I could about triggers and symptoms.
I learned that the top four migraine triggers are: Food allergies, Environmental agitation, Stress #1, and Hormone imbalance.
My understanding is that migraines are neurological, vascular and muscular. There are over 300 documented kinds of headaches, which shocked me. As well as the fact that 60 million people just in the U.S. suffer. Migraines for some are completely debilitating and affects their entire lives, taking away joy and replacing with intense pain that can last a long time.
For the neurological side of it, I wanted to bring in aromatherapy for those top 4 triggers. When inhaled, it calms the brain and helps to bring it back to balance. Your sense of smell is immediate, going right to the brain. I found a master aromatherapist, who makes a proprietary blend for me, for each trigger. These blends help a sufferer figure out what their triggers are simply by inhaling from each blend, and the one their brain likes the most is the one to apply to themselves.
Secondly, I found a stone carver who makes me the specific shapes of marble stones I designed for the back of the neck, temples, sinus, eyes (ocular migraines). I discovered that when the stones are at 36 degrees, and applied to the face and head, it immediately reduces the swelling in the head and brain giving relief and stopping the horrible pounding they feel. 36 degrees is achieved easily in the refrigerator or in an ice bath.
Thirdly, I created specific headache point release techniques that a massage therapist can do for their clients or a person can do to themselves, that can help very quickly.
I created two migraine kits for Migraine Miracle: a professional (massage therapist or spa, esthetician and the Home Care Kit for those who would like to do the treatment at home or work. The kits include 12 specially designed marble stones, 4 essential oil aromatherapies, a how to guide for home and a DVD/marketing material for the pro.
Many are searching for a natural, holistic way to prevent or lessen the pain of migraines without prescription meds. I believe this is a revolutionary way to think about migraines, how to recognize triggers before it’s too late, and get their lives back!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not a smooth road. It took quite a while to find a stone carver and for an aromatherapist to create the blends.
Then to design a kit box that would hold the stones safely without breaking and keep the essential oils safe too.
I also wanted to copyright, trademark and patent my creation.
This entire endeavor was very expensive to create, bring to fruition and to let the public know of its existence.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Migraine Miracle story. Tell us more about the business.
I have been a massage therapist for over 25 years working for myself, and then transitioned into being a certified massage instructor with NCBTMB (national certification board of therapeutic massage) for 18 years.
I became certified in pregnancy massage, infant massage, and also became a doula where I helped 10 beautiful babies be born. I also started a facial, bath and bodycare business in 2003 called Aldila, which is still currently selling to customers and clients.
I specialized in these treatments for several years and very proud that I helped high risk pregnant women and babies come to full term.
I have always thought outside the box and created my own techniques in order to help people in pain.
I am also very proud that I created this natural migraine treatment, of which I have never seen anything like it anywhere.
This sets me apart, as I wanted to help people figure out what their triggers are and be able to help prevent a migraine instead of having to try something while they are in the migraine. It is very difficult to find why some people get migraines and others don’t. Perhaps genetics? Western medicine often has only meds to offer and not much on why or what is causing the migraine.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has been a very important part of creating Migraine Miracle. From coming up with the treatment, finding the right stone maker and aromatherapist who all wanted to give me a chance to succeed.
I practiced this treatment on migraine sufferers and was lucky enough to see the method work for them. This brought me such intense joy and happiness when I sat them up from my massage table with them exclaiming “my headache is gone”! It’s a miracle!
This was my luck in calling it Migraine Miracle because of these people.
The first time I offered and was invited to teach the treatment to massage therapists at a massage conference, I had over 60 students attend. I was so excited to see the interest and sold everyone a kit. I knew I had a hit.
Bad luck comes sometimes from the people that you meet along the way that were bad business choices, distractions and money spent and wasted keeping me from my quest.
