Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Lefler.
Ken, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing plumbing in the summer of 1981 fresh out of high school. Tested for and obtained a journeyman license in the State of Texas three years later. One year after that I tested for and obtained a Master Plumbing license in the State of Texas. I started my own business almost immediately thereafter with a partner who had a lot more experience than I did. But that partnership did not endure. Since then I have had my own business in a few different shapes and forms but all in the plumbing industry. Sometimes doing a lot of residential remodels. Most of the time doing commercial construction that took me all over the State of Texas. In 2007, I made my latest transition to residential and commercial service and repair. My business has grown considerably over the last 10 years. I attribute that to being fair and honest with every individual I meet. Most of the time when someone calls me it is because they have a serious problem and they need someone who can provide a serious solution. All or our trucks are equipped with drain cleaning equipment for every occasion. We also have cameras and locating equipment on every truck. Our trucks are stocked with supplies as well as Home Depot. This makes us more efficient and saves time for us and our customers. These are the policies we believe in and will continue to stick with.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We expected difficulties from the beginning but we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of business we were able to secure and perform. But the economy presented challenges in 2009. Finding people to work for us who operate under the same integrity that I do has been challenging at times. So certainly, when we find someone who lives out their life like we do, we do what we can to keep them employed here. Our business has been on a steady incline since 2009 and we are grateful.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Not every plumbing company has the ability to locate and repair leaks under the foundation. In Texas housing foundations are a slab of concrete poured on dirt with all the plumbing in the dirt below the slab. Unfortunately, sometimes those pipes break and cause serious problems if left undiscovered and not repaired. I am proud that we are able to help homeowners protect their largest investment.
What were you like growing up?
I excelled as an athlete in high school. I had summer jobs every summer since I was 12 or 13. Even then I would get myself up and ride my bike about 5 miles and wake up my boss and we would ride in his truck to the job site and about sunrise. I think my grandpa made me realize at an early age what good work ethic is and what bad work ethic is. So because of that even today I try to do everything with a spirit of excellence.
