Meet Kendal Forman of AR Workshop Dallas in Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendal Forman.

Kendal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My back story involves me working with my hands at a very young age, think all things beautiful and practical. I was ten years old, helping build my childhood home-lifting walls, staining floors, painting walls, working with nail guns and upcycling things like old metal and barn wood. Fast forward to getting married and having kids. I have always loved custom decor that you can’t find anywhere else, so I found myself making things for myself for not only my wedding but also my children’s nursery. That turned into doing birthday parties, baby showers, bachelorette parties and more for family and friends once people saw the things I did for myself. I have always loved things that were Pinterest worthy but before the world of Pinterest, being creative was a family tradition that I learned from my mom and dad. Special family memories have always been made doing these things, so we decided to bring our love for all things DIY storefront with AR Workshop Dallas to share with our community. Everything we offer can be amazing for a family day, date night, girls night, birthday party, team building and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The idea of coming storefront was a no brainer but within weeks of signing our lease. Everything COVID 19 related came crashing down around us, so we had to quickly re-evaluate our approach to reaching people. We very much thrive on human interaction and having people come in for workshops but we have been promoting our DIY To-Go Kits that are fun for kids and adults in their home settings. The way the kits work is they are a small taste of what happens in the workshop without the power tools. A custom design can still be picked, paint and stain colors can still be picked, and you can get some of the experience from the workshop at home but we hope the kits will make people want to join us in person. At the workshop, we are very much promoting social distancing with only ten people allowed per class versus our regular 30 people. We are also sanitizing all tools, and wearing masks, so people feel comfortable.

We’d love to hear more about AR Workshop Dallas.
AR Workshop is a Boutique DIY Home Decor Studio where people can come to make memories and something beautiful at the same time. We offer such a special experience because everyone will make something completely different than the person next to them, whether it is a wood sign with a cute saying, a canvas/burlap wall hanging with your family’s home coordinates, a wood-framed clock, a lazy susan, cornhole boards, a cake stand, a raised pedestal for your kitchen or vanity, and the list goes on. With 57 paint colors, six stain colors, seven different techniques and HUNDREDS of designs to pick from, it will blow your mind what you will create, even if you don’t have an artistic bone in your body. We will guide and help you through your project from start to finish. We have a super relaxed BYOB atmosphere as well. Community is extremely important to us and one of the big reasons we opened is to reach people and bring people together.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Community! We want people to realize how important community and bringing people together is to us. In a world where we are falling further from each other, we want to bridge that gap and bring people back together.
