Meet Kendal Richardson of The Grapevine HIV/AIDS Organization in Oakcliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendal Richardson.

Kendal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a young man born day one rejected. Went through issues stemming from molestation & rape. Those traumatic situations caused identity issues, guilt, shame, hurt, pain, anger, distrust, and selfishness. Not being able to internally deal with those issues in a healthy way I became a molester, promiscuous, and in the midst of it all, I contracted HIV when was 19 years old.

Living with a disease that has lots of stigma on it, is a harsh reality, but I think my experiences have helped shape me to withstand the rollercoaster ride I was about to embark on.

On my journey of having to live through my issues & struggles of drug & alcohol addiction, sex addiction, & living a homosexual lifestyle and prostitution, God found me in my mess and sent people to offer salvation, not just lip service but with my heart. I was already saved, but partially. When I say partially, we confess with our mouth & believe in our hearts, that’s the part I was
missing.

That day conversation happened and somethings I used to do I no longer do and the other things I was doing, God is continuing to deliver me from the sins that had me bound.

So today, I’m not who I used to be but I’m walking out my calling as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has been many struggles. It’s like times I’ve taken two steps & went back 15 steps. You just have to fall in love with Jesus in order to keep living. Loving HIM is learning to obey HIM.

How to do that is prayer & reading HIS word. The key to starting dealing with your struggles is forgiveness and repentance

Please tell us about The Grapevine HIV/AIDS Organization – what should we know?
The Grapevine HIV/AIDS Organization mission is to educate youth, parents, pastors & community members concerning HIV/AIDS through social media and community involvement.

I’m most proud because with my organization we deal with the entire person mind, body and soul.

What sets us apart is the organization is founded by the bible, John 15.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I give credit first to God & to all the volunteers and donators throughout the last 13 years.
