Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenna Ramos.
Hi Kenna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
First off, I always knew I wouldn’t be going to college. I can’t sit still and I surely knew I wouldn’t be able to sit day in and out in a cubicle, Monday through Friday, 9 am-5 pm, typing away on a computer, WAY TO BORING for me! It took me 5 years to decide if this was really what I wanted to do. I’m not someone who only commits partially when I do something, I’m an all-or-nothing personality, very Type A. Once I decided to commit to Esthetics, I wanted to go so that I could do make-up in Hollywood, ahh to be young and have big dreams, Haha. Shortly after starting school, I realized I enjoyed being in a treatment room. I’m very much a problem solver and love a good challenge or puzzle, so helping others find skincare solutions is actually a perfect match for me! Plus, I love to educate and train, so creating my own brand and supporting others is another one of my strengths and passions.
I’ve been in the spa industry for 16 years and have had about every position in spa, including management, training, and in the treatment room. It takes a lot of self-motivation and passion to self-educate. The trends change so quickly and there are so many new ingredients and products coming out constantly, you really do have to continually educate yourself. But that’s what I love is teaching my guests what can help give them the results they want, and then seeing the excitement on their faces when they see those results!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, the most challenging part of my career up to this point was learning management skills and not being such a perfectionist and so critical of others. I hold myself to a very high standard and expect the same out of others but have learned that not everyone thinks and operates the way I do. So, learning different personality styles, and how to adjust my management style to each individual, was challenging for me. I have a much better leadership style now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Nourish Lifestyle Spa we like to think of ourselves as, “Your Skincare Coach.” We take pride in getting to know our guests, their skin, lifestyle, and their goals. We keep in touch with you after your visit to check on how your skin is doing and if you have any questions, we send reminders for your next visit, and are always available and encourage our guests to reach out if they have any questions. We pride ourselves on educating you on the best products and services for your skin and lifestyle. It’s all about quality esthetics. We offer a variety of non-invasive, results-driven services including chemical peels, Hydro Dermabrasion, classic facials, full body waxing, and lash services. We want this experience to be Relaxation with Results and part of your lifestyle, not just the occasional luxury. We believe there is Beauty in Balance.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
There are many industry resources, such as magazines, websites, and leaders in the industry. Research constantly! Several that I follow are SkinInc., Dermascope, and AddoAesthetics, and then I listen to what my guests tell me. If they mention a product, ingredient or resource they found and I’m not familiar with it, I research it. There is no shame in saying, “I don’t know, but let me research that I all let you know what I find out.” I do that all the time, we can’t know everything, so it’s better, to be honest and then give them the correct information. Then you learn something new also!
