Meet Kennedy Kitchings and Micheal Garcia of Groov Drinks in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Kitchings and Micheal Garcia.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the co-owner to Groov Drinks along with my best friend, Micheal Garcia. We met working together at spiral diner and instantly connected. Were both vegan and very health orientated, so we have similar views on a lot of things. One day Micheal asked me if I wanted to try making kombucha with him because a friend gave him a scoby (the bacteria part of the kombucha) Of course I said yes! At the same time I had been juicing a ton and every morning I would drink my daily juice. I would always bring it to work and my coworkers would always want to try it and some even jokingly mention buying some. That was when it hit us to start selling it. Because kombucha is such a science and very hard to master, we want out recipes to be absolutely perfected before we start selling it. So in the meantime, we decided to sell our fresh pressed juice. We came up with three solid recipes and absolutely fell in love with them. From there we made three more, then three more again, and now we have nine flavors of juice we’ve been selling locally in Denton to friends and family. We’re excited to start selling our kombucha once our fermentation process is perfect! All of our products are organic, raw, non-GMO, and of course vegan. We are quickly creating a community of juice lovers in Denton and we’re excited to expand all across DFW this summer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have definitely been struggling with our kombucha at the moment actually. We have been so excited to get the recipe perfect but something just seems to be off and we haven’t figured it out yet. This process is just going to make it all that more rewarding when we do finally perfect our recipe though!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in Juice and Kombucha (also referred to by us as ‘booch’ but at the moment juice has been our focus. We love that all of our ingredients are exactly what you expect to be in the product. If we sell a juice flavor that’s “Coconut Pineapple Lime” those are the exact ingredients you are getting. We pride our selves on having very simple ingredients and making every juice fresh to order to ensure our customers are getting the best product available. We also want our drinks to accessible to anyone and everyone that wants to try that why we are trying to make our juice cheaper than others!

What were you like growing up?
Micheal and I have always been very goofy people which is why we get along very well. We know when it’s time to be serious and work but we also make it so much fun along the way. We also both went vegan over three years ago, although Micheal has been vegetarian his entire life. I really believe that I can speak for both of us that this lifestyle change has completely changed our lives.
