Meet Kenneth Sikes of Block Knowledge Entertainment in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Sikes.

Kenneth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started music professionally at the age of 17 after being signed to a label. Things began to go so well for me that I basically just dropped out of school. They were getting ready to kick me out anyway because I was always on tours and being played on the radio but my Endeavors in the streets with gang Bangin and drug addiction sent me to prison numerous of times. In prison is where I began to change my life and the music that I put out, which was the beginning stages, who I am today. I got tired of rapping about things that were hurting the black community. I wanted to be able to show people from those communities that we can be better, that we are better and to show people outside of the community that there is golden Jewels inside the ghettos and that is when block knowledge came to life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been smooth trying to find my Lane and my demographic with music is one. For a while, I did straight face Bass music cuz that’s where I was at in my life but I notice it was boxing out the people who really needed to hear my message. Not only that but for years, I had my own demons with anger, violence, being in love with Street activities and cocaine. Once block knowledge begin to kick off, people really didn’t trust me or didn’t get what the movement was about. Nobody wanted to support at all

Please tell us about Block Knowledge Entertainment.
Block knowledge, basically a mentorship outreach program. In the beginning, music had nothing to do with it. The whole purpose was to Open the Eyes of troubled youth in the streets and point them down the right direction and also to show people who aren’t from the streets what it’s like in the streets and people in those circumstances are really talented and gifted just haven’t had the opportunity to make it out. What makes us different is we literally go out into the streets and take people under our wing with our own money no government assistance no help we tried to ask for help in the past and nobody would so I took it upon myself to do all I can and that’s why people meaning homeless people drug addicts teenagers who don’t have a parent to raise them respect us so much we are very Street and rugged but our hearts are pure to see people successful.
