Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Thacker.
Kenny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in active ministry for 39 years. I grew up playing music in a family band. We toured festivals around the south, including playing the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. After I came to faith, I played in a band called Simple Faith, traveling to churches, schools, etc. I started preaching and pastoring soon after and have never looked back. I moved to Texas in 2005 to take a position at the church I serve now.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth road. There are all sorts of challenges along the way. I deal with a lot of wounded, disappointed people. I have walked with so many through failed relationships, failed businesses and loss of loved ones. I have moved across country from grand-babies and family and friends. I have had to maneuver through troublesome waters of changing cultural beliefs and values, and lead through in the midst of economic downturns and crashes.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in building gospel-centered community. In a current church culture that seems to cater to the individual as a consumer, we seek to knit families together to live shared lives. We call for accountability to each other.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We love our town. When I moved here our population was 1700. We’re projected to top out at 89,000. We strive to work with other churches and businesses, as well as with local civic government, to maintain a safe, family friendly environment in which to live, work and worship.
