Meet Kenya Graves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Graves.

Kenya, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My business wasn’t even supposed to be a business (at least that is not what I envisioned at the time) it was just supposed to be a side hustle for me. I was/am an at-home mom and from the time my daughter came home from the NICU at five months until she was about 2 1/2, that’s all I was, an at home mom. I felt like other than being a mother, I had no purpose. I wasn’t working at the time and because of my daughter’s health conditions, I just didn’t feel right putting her in a daycare while I went to work. One day I decided I was going to make YouTube banners. I started out making them for free, using random people with a following and then sending them to their inbox to see how they liked it. It started working, they would shout me on different social media platforms. I started to charge money for them because I saw I was actually getting inboxes from multiple different people. Then I would see statuses on Facebook of people asking, “who does logos?” I thought to look into it and try; again I started doing those for free as well.

My work at the time, when I look back, wasn’t close to what it is now but I started to like and build a passion for what I was doing. I started doing logos for very cheap. I knew that as long as I become better and give good customer service, people would come back and tell other people about me. That is exactly what happened. As that started I started to add more things to my resume like business cards and flyers because I would get asked if I did them a lot. I figured if I could make a logo I could make the others as well. I have done over 300 logos now, I have not even been in business for a year yet. I am so happy that things turned out the way they did and I found something that I love to do. So many people tell me how grateful they are for how I gave them a logo that they envisioned and that makes me feel so happy. Makes me happy to know that people trust me and that they have a face for their business now. I feel like I am more than just an at home mom, I am a business woman as well and it feels amazing. All I know is that I am going to continue growing my business and becoming more skilled at what I do. I am Kenya Graves the owner of Kenya’s Graphics.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The only struggles I can name would have to be being patient while business was slow and balancing my time. Being a mother with a toddler and still having to get all my orders done is not easy but I have managed my time and days better. Also when I first started things were slow, sometimes I wouldn’t get replies back and I would get frustrated. I had to learn that patience, promotion and hard work really is the key to getting to the success that I want.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Kenya’s Graphics is a graphic business. I do logos, social media banners, flyers and business cards. I help people with the visual parts of their brand. I am most proud of the growth of my company. I get messages from different social media platforms and my emails and that just makes me so happy to know, that people see the work I do and want me to do work for them. What sets me a part from others is that I have outstanding customer service, I go above and beyond for my customers. Some days I even have sales (customer appreciation day) just for my customers because I want them to know how appreciative I am for them.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For Kenya’s Graphics I am looking forward to growth, interacting with more people, sharpening my skills for my customers and myself. I am hoping to do graphic designs for major companies soon and have my own store, so that was I can have a print shop as well.
