Meet Kenye Pierce of Red Velvet Ink in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenye Pierce.

Kenye, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communication Systems, I knew that I wanted to start my own graphic design business but was unsure of how I was going to do it or even make a living off of it. So I did what every other college graduate did, I got a full-time job with a well known Fortune 500 company with good benefits.

While working in the Advertising/Marketing department as a Brand Designer at my corporate job I began to build my design business on the side where I would take in small graphic design jobs here and there. After working at my corporate job for 6 years, I decided to go full time with my business Red Velvet Ink. I officially launched Red Velvet Ink in 2014, it originally started out as just me doing the design work but fast forward to 2017 I currently have three team members and the business has evolved into a digital design company focusing on branding and website design for Women entrepreneurs all across the United States.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As an entrepreneur, I’m quick to say it has not been a smooth road at all. Within the first year of business, I struggled to find my ideal clients. I didn’t know anything about having boundaries in my business and I accepted every design inquiry that came through my website.

I struggled with saying “NO” to clients and eventually found myself working at all times of the day and night to complete design jobs. I quickly knew that things had to change after my first child was born because I was pretty much all over the place and stressed out being a new Mom and a business owner. I began to set boundaries within my business, strict work hours and got really serious about the direction I wanted my business to go in for the future.

Red Velvet Ink – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

Our clients are of various businesses that are start-up to established large scale companies, we’ve worked with Business Coaches, Wedding/Event Planners, Lawyers, Boutique Owners, Interior Decorators, Photographers and MakeUp Artists just to name a few.

From logo development and collateral design, stationery, social media and website design. Our motto “executing greatness while creating beautiful and unique brands”, Red Velvet Ink will bring your vision to life! Our goal as a design agency is to create a brand that our clients are “wowed” by and that will give confidence to market their business socially and professionally (no more being too embarrassed to show people your business card or tell them about your website) and drive to accomplish their business goals.

We’re known for our oh so stylish but yet sophisticated clean design style and we only work with women owned businesses which I believe sets us apart from other design agencies. Helping budding entrepreneurs find their brand voice and style by bringing their ideas to life through great typography, color and purposeful design makes us very proud!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Navigating through this journey of entrepreneur life for over 5 years now, I can honestly say Success is not measured by how much money you make or how many people you know. Success is all about happiness and I truly like to define success in business and my personal life in many different ways. The top three things that contribute to success are:

1. Liking what you do on a day to day basis.
2. Knowing that you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.
3. Accomplishing small goals that eventually equals out to big wins in life.
