Meet Keritan Shelby of JMS Estate Solutions in Preston Road

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keritan Shelby.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Keritan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story started as soon as I graduated from college on December 16, 2016. I claim two hometowns, Mendenhall & Mount Olive, Mississippi. I attended Hinds Community College for two years and transferred to Mississippi State University. I received my Associates and Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering from both respective schools. About two weeks after graduation, my cousin had passed away from a seizure. His funeral was scheduled on January 16, 2017… my first day at work. It was then I realized how precious time is and how grateful we should be for every second on this planet.

I was always an extremely hard worker. I came from poverty just to get to where I am now, but I am not satisfied because I must get my family out of poverty as well. I averaged 23 hours worth of courses, a job sometimes two, and extracurricular activities while I was in school in order to have scholarships so I would not have to take out too many student loans.

My why has evolved over the last four years. It was to make sure my little brothers would not have to go through what I went through growing up without the things that I needed. I would shoulder everything that way they wouldn’t have to, but as soon as I started my corporate lifestyle my why evolved even further. While I was working, I started studying how to retire by the age of 40 because of what happened to my late cousin. So, I read tons of blogs and eventually started to study the habits of wealthy individuals. I mastered personal finance and learned that in order to become wealthy, I had to change who I am and change my mindset.

The next and last emotional trigger that got me on this journey was when my ex broke up with me again. So, that hurt a lot but instead of blaming everything on the world, I took the blame and started going down a personal development journey and worked on becoming a better person. This happened in June of 2017. I started reading books on mindfulness, meditation and continued to study the habits of wealthy people and read books about investing. I started waking up at 4 A.M to workout, listen to motivational videos on YouTube, and execute my Miracle Morning and I still do until this day.

A series of events led me to eventually read Rich Dad Poor Dad, and that changed everything. I already knew I was getting tired of my day job and something had to give. The race was on to hurry up and get to the right side of the quadrant and buy more assets in order to become financially free. I read more books in 2017 than I did in my entire life up until that point. A few more opportunities opened up to me, only because I had developed my mindset, and I stumbled across Real Estate investing. I started this company to give me time freedom, allow me to give back to my community, help others, and create generational wealth.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, I still work a full-time job and run my business part-time. So, finding the time to do things is a struggle as well as financing. The struggle is what makes everything worthwhile.

JMS Estate Solutions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a residential redevelopment and solutions company that helps homeowners who may be facing foreclosure, going through a divorce, inherited an unwanted property, etc. sell their distressed properties.

We value the people that we work with and helping others. What sets us apart from others is that we don’t compare our business to others. We only work on improving our customer service to give whoever we work with the best service we possibly can.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s tough. I always loved video games as a kid. So, I’d say anything that involves me getting a game.
