Meet Keshia and Stephen Cato of Symone Construction Services in Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshia and Stephen Cato.

Keshia and Stephen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Stephen and I grew up in the same town, located in rural northeast Louisiana. Our upbringing was very similar, especially when we speak about the types of homes we lived in. We both lived in wood frame homes that were elevated on concrete blocks.

During the late fall, we would help our parents place plastic around the windows, in an effort to insulate our homes and to keep the cold winter air out. We both reminisce about waking up on those frigid mornings, puckering our lips, and exhaling. Just to see the cloud of breath. This was our way of gauging how cold it really was inside. Although we didn’t know it at the time, both of our dreams were parallel. We both wanted to make our parents proud by growing up and doing better than they were able to. As each generation should. As we got older, we wandered in opposite directions. Stephen started a career with Auto Nation and I with the US Forest Service. In 2004, a serendipitous encounter brought us together.

With a deep-rooted urge to leave our mark on this earth, we trusted God and gave birth to Symone Custom Homes. Business was great, but something was missing. We were providing a service to those who pretty much had everything. We wanted to be able to help those who were less fortunate. Those who had humble beginnings like we did. In 2008, the housing market crashed. Many in our industry lost everything, but we gained traction. Symone began bidding on government / city jobs. This is when we began to literally impact lives, one structure at a time.

Symone, now known as Symone Construction Services, LLC has constructed an apartment complex for senior citizens, a hotel / lodge for a local city park, more than 40 homes for lower income families, as well as completed several remodel and maintenance contracts. Though Symone has existed for only 11 years, we have achieved many great accomplishments and we know that the best is yet to come.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Symone Construction Services, LLC is a minority / woman owned general contractor, located in Cedar Hill, TX, that has provided the highest quality of construction services for eleven years, throughout the DFW Metropolitan area and the state of Louisiana.

We specialize in all facets of construction, whether it’s residential, multifamily, or lite commercial – government, cities, or schools.

Symone is known for producing satisfied customers and building healthy relationships.

We are most proud of transforming the living conditions and quality of life of families who resided in homes that were unsafe and had uninhabitable living conditions. Being able to witness the smiles and appreciation we receive from our customers, makes the struggle worth it.

The one thing that sets us apart from others is the fact that we are a general contractor that listens to and communicates with our customers.

We hear the customers’ needs, wants, and desires and make each of those a reality, while offering suggestions that may enhance the overall quality of the project along the way.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost, God deserves all the credit. He has ordered each of our steps and he makes our job look easy, simply because we have stayed faithful and continued to trust his guidance. Stephen and I both agree that our parents and grandparents have been our supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, etc. We’ve both overcome many trials and setbacks throughout life and they have always been there to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. As kids, we watched each of them work hard to provide for us and strive to open doors they were unable to walk through. It’s only fitting that we continue with the legacy of hard work and opening doors, thus knocking down walls for our children and those that must come behind us. Lastly, our children Avery, Eric, Mekhi, and Kali continue to motivate us to be better people on a daily basis. For that, we will be forever grateful.
