Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Dang
Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before I was a Massage Therapist, I worked in retail pharmacy. This involved phone calls, data entry and customer service. It was a stressful environment and I knew this was not for me. I need change and like many stories, mine begins with a girl.
In 2014, I reconnected with a middle school classmate, Ana, who was a massage therapist. Hoping to get to know her better, I booked a massage. The week leading up to the appointment felt full of anticipation and seemed to take forever, but the long drive was more than worth it. I didn’t know what to expect, except that I wanted to spend time with a girl that I like. After the massage, I felt both refresh and inspired to try something new.
Ana and I began seeing each other for a while. With her encouragement, I enrolled in massage school at Parker University. I went to class in the morning and continued to work at the pharmacy in the evenings. The year was hard. Despite that, school was the highlight of my days. Although Ana didn’t last, her words of encouragement have stuck with me: “You’ll be a great massage therapist.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting started was tough. The uncertainty seemed scary. I worked at several local spas before deciding to open my own practice. The “what-ifs” were endless. What if I fail? What if I can’t pay rent? What if no one comes?… and What if I succeed?
Determined, I hired a business advisor to help me in starting my own business. Once again, I was ready for a change, and the universe provided. I found a peaceful space in an old church building in Highland Park neighborhood, where I have been running my practice since 2019.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Massage offers whole body benefits. Holistically , it helps to relieve stress and allows both the body and mind to relax. Scientifically, massage aids in faster recovery and relief pain and tensions by increase blood circulation and moves fluid in the lymphatic system to reduce swelling and water retention.
At my office, I provide full-body massage, Thai stretch therapy, hot stones, and cupping. I also offer home visits and set up chair massages for events of all sizes.
I’m known for my attention to detail in neck and shoulders relief. My Thai stretch therapy is beneficial to athletes and my cupping helps improve blood circulation, remove congestion, reducing fatigue and muscle pain.
With the help of a colleague, I also offer a “four-hands” massage that will transports you to another dimension of relaxation!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just do it, with enthusiasm
