Keyur, please share your story with us.
I started NiteHawk Pediatric Urgent Care in 2014 with the vision to build a world class network of after-hours pediatric focused urgent care centers. Our flagship facility was developed in the Dallas suburb of Wylie, Texas in 2015 (the first and only pediatric urgent care center in the city of Wylie) and just celebrated its second year anniversary there. I also serve as President, and Chief Executive Officer of NiteHawk and I realized there was a large need for these types of specialized facilities and wanted to develop the next generation pediatric urgent care center. Of the approximate 9,000+ urgent care centers in the nation, less than 2% are pediatric focused. Most parents know there is a big difference between a child and an adult, which is why they take their children to pediatricians for medical care. NiteHawk utilizes a pediatrician only provider model (your child will only be seen by a board certified pediatrician) that balances the best quality care with affordability (we are 5-10 times more affordable than most ER options) and convenience (most patients are in and out of our facility within 45 minutes). Our medical staff are assisted in providing world class care by pediatric ER nurses, paramedics, EMT’s, and other specially trained staff. Due to our expert staff, we are able to treat a variety of minor illnesses and injuries that occur when most pediatricians are closed for the day. We operate in partnership with pediatricians, not competing with them as we don’t overlap in terms of days, hours or services with most pediatricians’ offices. We communicate back to the patient’s medical home for ease of coordination of care. NiteHawk has also invested in the next generation equipment and technology, such as our Viztec digital X-ray machine on-site that offers the lowest radiation dose X-rays in the country.
NiteHawk had the vision and foresight to be the first facility in the state of Texas to adopt this technology. We have also designed our facility to be very child friendly and have made some unique design and furniture choices to assist with creating a calm and “fun” environment for the children and their families. We know it is a stressful situation to have a sick or injured child after hours when most other options are closed, so we have worked to make this experience as stress-free as possible. It is due to these extraordinary characteristics and our hard work that we have become a trusted partner for not only the community in Wylie, but also surrounding communities as far as 30 miles away.
Has it been a smooth road?
We are very proud of where we are today, but we have been faced with numerous challenges along the way that we didn’t anticipate. Not only did we start Nitehawk during a particularly challenging time with the Affordable Care Act having just been implemented and its effects being felt by working families, but we have faced insurance challenges and patient education challenges along the way. With the proliferation of free standing emergency rooms, we have had to constantly educate families on the differences between the two types of settings and try to “right-size” healthcare, so families are seeking us out for the right type of care at the right time. We have also worked very hard to educate the insurance marketplace on all of the benefits, our model has for providing the best quality care that is appropriate for our patient population and providing this care as economically as possible to benefit both the insurance companies, as well as their members.

NiteHawk Pediatric Urgent Care is the next generation of pediatric urgent care centers.
We provide treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, exclusively to children (birth to age 21), when most pediatricians are closed for the day (nights, weekends, and holidays). We balance providing the best quality care in a very child friendly environment, with the best staff and equipment that is the right size and type for kids, in a convenient and easily accessible manner and affordable. We have become known for providing the best care in a very customer service orientated format. We are very unique in only board-certified pediatricians provide care at our facility, they are assisted by the best trained staff in the industry, and we have the best equipment available, specifically designed for children. Our expert staff are often times able to keep kids out of the emergency room and still have all the right treatment to take care of their minor injuries and illnesses. We coordinate and communicate with the child’s pediatrician and ensure seamless coordination of care back to the medical home or to a pediatric sub-specialist as needed. We are the first and only pediatric urgent care facility in the city of Wylie, Texas. I am most proud of the fact that when we started NiteHawk, we set out to change healthcare and I believe we are doing that, one patient at a time.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Dallas as a whole is a fantastic market for a business like ours. It is growing at such a tremendous pace, that infrastructure services, such as ours will constantly be needed to not only serve the growing population, but the growing geography that they move into. Our business is such a specialized business that I would not recommend entering this space unless there is substantial expertise in our area or at a minimum, understanding market analytics to ensure oversaturating the marketplace. Since we are the first and only pediatric urgent care facility in the city of Wylie, I believe we are well positioned to be the provider of choice for your child who may sustain any minor injury or illness that occur on nights, weekends, and holidays in the greater Wylie community.
