Meet Ki Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ki Marie.

Hi Ki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Ki Marie; I am an upcoming Dallas female rap artist. I’ve been a creative since I was able to pick up a crayon. However, I was always into music. From my parents playing Earth, Wind, and Fire, Monica, TLC, Bobby Brown, Mary j Blidge, etc. Anything I heard that sounded good to me sent chills down my spine. I started writing music in 7th grade when I was around 13 years old. I loved it and did it for a while, and I switched my focus to writing stories, plays, and drawing/painting. Here I am 13 years later, finally tapping back into the musical side of my creativity, but this time I’m going all in.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For me, it feels like the journey is still beginning, but I’ve been praying and doing what felt right to me. The only part I can recall that was a bit of a struggle throughout this process was actually doing it and being consistent with my writing. I was going through anxiety & depression when I first started thinking about giving it another go. But it’s like when I told myself I’d do it; I would always find reasons not to finish it. Or if I did write something I didn’t like it so I scrapped it; I was really hard on myself for a while, I even had a panic attack before my first time in the studio, but Literally had to pray, ask god for comfort and courage, and push past the resistance I was causing for myself. It actually turned out to be something I genuinely love to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, if I’m honest (laughs) I’m known as a hairstylist! Which I am, I specialize in extensions, wigs, anything where hair needs to be added to your natural hair. I’m secondly known for modeling and writing. And I can now say that I am a rap artist. I’m truly proud of everything I’ve done; not to be big-headed or anything, but everything I’ve done has led to this. Every time I think about a time I was top model in a fashion show, when I reached a certain amount of clientele, or writing and recording my first song. I always made it a personal goal to become a master of all my talents. Now that I’m on this new journey, I’ve been presented opportunities that I can’t speak on as of yet, but I am excited and look forward to seeing where they take me.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be I had a birthday party when I was 7, I asked my mom to do a fashion show with all the dresses I had in my closet that were “special” dresses, like for holidays and whatnot. So, my cousin was my host, and I put on a fashion show for my family. I always wanted to be like Tyra Banks. Honestly, my family as well as myself have always known that one, if not all of my talents were going to take me far.
