Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Wallace.
Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Two entrepreneurial, visionary families made a conscious—and honestly effortless—decision to dedicate themselves to redefining community based senior care. Golden Grace didn’t begin as a business plan or a strategic blueprint. It started the way many beautiful things do: at a party in McKinney, Texas, where two women with aligned spirits and aligned values realized they were dreaming the same dream. We thought we were simply imagining a Black owned and operated assisted living and adult day activity facility, a place where our elders could hear the songs they grew up on, eat the foods that felt like home, play dominoes, laugh loudly, and be surrounded by people who understood their culture, their humor, and their history. A place where they didn’t have to explain themselves to be understood.
But the more we talked, the more we realized we weren’t just dreaming—we were being called.
What started as a conversation became a commitment.
What started as an idea became a mission.
How we started: a party in McKinney, Texas
How we ended: to be continued
Because the truth is, our story is still unfolding.
As we stepped into this work, we quickly saw the gaps—especially for Veterans and for individuals living with dementia, two populations deeply underserved in community based care. We knew we could build something different. Something dignified. Something culturally attuned. Something that felt like home.
So, we got to work.
We joined organizations.
We built partnerships.
We aligned with Collin College, Job Corps, MISD, and national senior care networks.
We learned, we listened, and we grow.
And along the way, Golden Grace evolved from a dream of an Assisted Living Facility into a Day Activity & Healthcare Services (DAHS) program rooted in dementia informed engagement, Veteran centered support, and high touch, relationship based care.
Today, Golden Grace stands as a boutique, community anchored program built on love, legacy, and leadership. And we’re just getting started.
Our story is still being written—by our families, by the seniors we serve, and by the community that continues to believe in what we’re building.
To be continued…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are moments when the process feels overwhelming—navigating licensing, building systems from scratch, securing partnerships, and making sure we were creating something that will truly serve Veterans and individuals living with dementia, two populations that are often overlooked in community‑based care. There are days when we wonder if people see what we were trying to build, if they believe in the vision the way we do. We are learning that smooth roads don’t make strong founders. And we’re not just here to endure—we’re here to make a difference. We’re here to build something that outlives us. We’re here to create a place where seniors, Veterans, and families feel supported, understood, and honored.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Golden Grace Day Activity & Healthcare Services, LLC is a boutique, community‑based senior care organization offering a full continuum of support including Adult Day Activity & Health Services (DAHS), short‑term respite, Assisted Living (ALF) development, The GUIDE Program participation, and Veteran‑centered counseling and support. We specialize in dementia‑informed engagement, culturally attuned programming, and high‑touch care that honors each person’s history, identity, and dignity. As part of our dementia‑focused approach, we are also certified in Dementia Doll Therapy through The Grandbaby Project, allowing us to provide meaningful, comfort‑centered interventions that support emotional regulation and connection for individuals living with cognitive decline. What sets us apart is our heart and our intention. We are one of the few Black‑founded senior care organizations in the region, and we built Golden Grace to feel like home—where seniors can hear familiar music, enjoy meaningful activities, eat foods they recognize, and be surrounded by people who truly understand them. Our programming is designed for connection, joy, and cognitive support, especially for individuals living with dementia.
We are also deeply committed to serving Veterans, a population often overlooked in community‑based care. Through our work in VA Community Care Network (CCN) integration, Veteran counseling, and specialized support pathways, we ensure that those who served our country receive the respect, structure, and care they deserve.
Brand‑wise, we are most proud of creating a space where families feel seen, supported, and understood. Golden Grace is more than a program—it’s a sanctuary built on dignity, culture, and compassion. We want readers to know that our services are intentional, our care is personal, and our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors, Veterans, and caregivers in our community.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Golden Grace is built on the strength of two visionary families, and we would not be here without the people who believed in us long before the doors opened. Our husbands, Eric (Erika) and Kenny (Kim), have been our foundation—supporting us financially, encouraging every leap of faith, and standing behind a dream that required sacrifice, patience, and unwavering belief. Our children (Kennedy, McKinley & Zanaria) have shared their mothers with Golden Grace, giving us the space to build something bigger than ourselves. Our mothers have covered us in intercessory prayer, reminding us that this work is spiritual as much as it is operational.
We are also blessed with mentors who sharpen us. Kim Cox, who serves as our mirror—reflecting truth, accountability, and clarity. Melvin White, our intentional executive business mentor, who challenges us to think bigger and lead with excellence. And Rev. Corey D. Johnson, whose wisdom and grounding presence have guided us through pivotal decisions.
A special acknowledgment goes to Michael Escamilla, Kimberly’s mentor in the senior‑care industry. Michael retired from Kirby Pines in Memphis after a long, respected career, and his insight into operations, culture, and resident experience helped shape Kimberly’s leadership long before Golden Grace existed.
And finally, our staff—our Golden Grace family. They believe in us without hesitation. They show up with heart, compassion, and commitment every single day. They are the reason our seniors feel safe, loved, and seen.
Golden Grace is not just a business. It is a community of believers, supporters, and prayer warriors who said, “We see you. We believe in you.” And because of them, we are here—not just enduring, but making a difference
