Meet Kimberly Williams of Kimbeaux Styles: Wardrobe Stylist in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Williams.

Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Kimberly Williams, better known as Beaux! I am a resident of Dallas, Tx and I provide wardrobe organization as well as personal and fashion styling services. I grew up in Monroe, La and graduated from ULM Fall 2013. My style has always been unique and daring, however I had no clue that a career in fashion was in the books for me until 2016. That is when I was introduced to the world of wardrobe styling.

As a wardrobe stylist, I assist everyday people with wardrobe upgrades, closet purges/reorgs, and personalized, one on one styling sessions. I also style models for fashion shows and photoshoots by offering personal shopping as well as pulling pieces from local designers and boutiques.

Ultimately, as a wardrobe stylist, I help clients tastefully flaunt their personal style by translating their creativity into fashion experiences. I now know my purpose is not only to dress people but to teach them the art of boldly embracing self, using one tool we are solely in control of; personal style.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road towards becoming my own boss has been everything BUT smooth. I had an awesome corporate gig, safe and secure. The pay was good and the company was better…but that wasn’t my passion. So, after two years of trading stocks and mutual funds, I prayed, then took the ultimate leap. I left my job and pursued wardrobe styling full time.

At first, there was this high of being fearless and chasing down my passion. I had a good amount of savings and most importantly, I had a plan. Eventually, the savings tapped out, the clients barely trickled in, and I found myself being BROKE broke. I started questioning if I made a mistake by quitting my job. I contemplated whether or not I was actually built for starting a business off the ground. I faced so many roadblocks I’d never anticipated. I was rejected by every “dream job” and stylist assistantship applied for. In the midst of all things going wrong, I clung to my faith, I chose to learn from every trial, and I worked harder.

I polished my craft by styling photo shoots, studying established stylists, styling friends and family, basically anything to keep my passion alive and fresh. A ton of work I’ve done within this time has been for FREE. I know, I know, free work? That’s insanity, especially when you’re broke! *face-palm* On the other hand, I’ve met quality people and built relationships with other creatives that will undoubtedly be valuable along this journey.

Eventually things started looking up! I was provided an amazing opportunity to style a fashion show which was terrifying but successful. I learned so much from that experience, and have since used those skills to style other shows. My biggest breakthrough so far came just recently, as I am now an assistant for Dallas Fashion Stylist, Amanda Taymor. I’m receiving hands-on experience and learning the true ins and outs of being a fashion stylist. I am so grateful for such a monumental step towards my career goals and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.

Please tell us about Kimbeaux Styles. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kimbeaux Styles is my brand as a wardrobe stylist. I started this journey almost three years ago and could not imagine pursuing a different career. As a wardrobe stylist, I specialize in both personal and fashion styling. Personal styling consists of assisting everyday people (both women and men) with wardrobe needs, such as styling for occasions, closet cleanses, personal shopping, and styling advice/consultations. Fashion styling is a bit more fast-paced. It includes duties such as, curating creative concepts and pulling from designers and boutiques for models, photoshoots, and fashion shows. The not so glamorous side of wardrobe styling includes long days on set, interning, carrying and loading heavy suitcases and equipment, endless research, and literally turning your backseat into a mini closet.

I’d say what I’m most known for is my vintage, but uncharted personal style. I definitely have a love for old school fashion, but I spice it up with my eclectic flare. I think boldly expressing my personal style has sort of created a name for myself as a fashionista, which in turn has been beneficial when recruiting and retaining clients.

As a business owner, I’m most proud of my perseverance. There were soooo many times my reality pointed towards failure. So many times I’d roll out of bed and say you know what, I can’t do this anymore. But I refused to meditate on those negative thoughts. Instead of throwing in the towel, I dug deep to find my true reason for starting Kimbeaux Styles. That reason is to touch lives through the art of fashion. My true purpose is styling, and I’m confident my passion shows through my work.

I think the most relevant thing that sets me apart from others would be my unconditional love for Jesus Christ. At the very core of me, I am a believer and follower of Him. I give all credit to God for choosing me and molding me into who I am today as a woman, a leader, and a fashion stylist. There’s something about knowing that God created me specifically for this career path sets me apart from the crowd. When you KNOW you are fulfilling your true calling, you are no longer subject to distractions disguised as competition, jealousy, and insecurities. I am able to completely focus on developing myself and my brand opposed to comparing myself to others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The majority of my favorite childhood memories revolve around my late grandfather, Rev. Willie T. Goree. He passed away in 2014 and was a monumental part of my life. I have tons of stories, but I must say my favorite would be always helping him get ready for church. I would sit on the floor, patiently waiting for him to put his shoes on so I could tie his laces. He’d allow me to “tie his tie”, knowing I had absolutely no idea what I was doing; then he’d always have to redo it. I would lather his face with shaving cream, although I never upgraded to actually holding the razor lol.

I guess my interest in styling and wardrobe has always subliminally been there. It makes my heart smile knowing those moments with my grandfather were seeds that later blossomed into my purpose on this earth; touching lives through fashion. I know how proud he must be of his favorite lol. Until I see you again Papa, holding this down for you!
