Kindred Coffee in Tarrant County

Thanks for sharing your story with us. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our story began in 2013. That year, my wife Susan and I sold all of our businesses back in Boston and moved to the DFW area with our four children. Once we had moved and established ourselves here we realized that we wanted a location where we could connect with people. We had held on to the idea of a coffee shop after we had a coffee farmer live with my family and me for seven years. He mentioned that the quality of coffee in the United States was not very good. This led us to look at alternative ways to provide quality products. We decided that we could only get the best coffee if we roast it fresh and we invested in our brand new roasting machine. We also hired a professional roaster who is still a key part in our business today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We knew coming into this that starting a coffee shop was risky since most of them fail in the first six months. Therefore, it was not always easy and we had our fair share of struggles getting to where we are today. Our original name, La Famiglia, proved to be one of the biggest challenges that we faced starting out. The name was meant to be inclusive but instead, we were mistaken for a Mexican restaurant. Our name was really hurting our business and not attracting customers to our shop. That led us to change our name in 2015 to Kindred and develop our main idea into our mission statement, discover reasons to belong. It was once we made the decision to change our name that we started to see our business grow

We’d love to hear more about your business.
