Meet King Karson

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Karson.

King, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started making music with a group of people (who I no longer communicate with) back in 2011 after I got kicked out of my first College, sending me back to Dallas from West Texas. Out of this group, there were two people (Devy $tonez & Tony Benz) who really influenced me to make music, but it was solely because they were so passionate about it, it sparked an interest of mine too. Shortly after, I’d find myself and the other guys performing every other weekend at venues around Dallas and things started to look up for the “crew”. Eventually, people in the group would start to envy others for multiple different reasons, so I decided to make my departure (after Devy had already left the group) and do my own thing like my small fan base had suggested.

Around 2013, I transferred to Texas A&M- Commerce where I’d meet DJ Sammy B, DJ DoesItAll and MOST slept on DFW producer WhoOnTheTrack. These three people played a big role in recording, mixing, and marketing my music.. Having a song on the radio, doing a small tour, podcasts and interviews are just a few things, to say the least.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been smooth because making music has never been hard for me. Especially after meeting WhoOnTheTrack, because he can bring whatever little tune you hear in your head to life, which gives you 135% creative control over your music vs. finding a beat on youtube that you kind of like and settling for. He’s also the person who taught me how to make my own beats, and I feel an artist cant be an artist all the way until he has control over every sound that he/she puts out (whether that be from the snare, hi-hat, kicks, bass, lyrics, etc). If I struggled with anything, I’d have to say it’s consistency. A lot of times life is real, and you got stuff you gotta handle so you put the music down. sometimes it’s longer than you’d like but at the same time, you know you’ll put out quality work.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I don’t necessarily have a “company” but I do have a small label I’m working on known as Renegade Rebels with a couple of other great artists, King Sosa and Draco. Those two are upcoming as well and fire as hell. I specialize in everything if you ask me. I know how to make beats, shoot and edit videos, mix music, and do digital art like album covers and such but I’m mainly known for MAKING music. Most people know King Karson from Flex.

“Choppin’ up bricks like Bruce Lee, Ima Badass like Boosie.”

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Yeah, I see Double R being very successful in five to ten years, it honestly shouldn’t take more than one year. The only change I plan on making personally is consistency and actually taking the music seriously because again I never wanted to be a rapper. I wanted to be a football player!
