Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirstie Jones.
Kirstie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an equine portrait photographer located in Plano, Texas.
I grew up just south of Portland, Oregon and I have ridden horses my entire life. I received a scholarship to ride for TCU’s equestrian team after high school which is how I ended up in Texas. While in college, I purchased my first camera as a Christmas present to myself. Naturally, I started taking pictures of the only thing that mattered to me: horses. What started as a hobby, grew into a side business, end ended up fueling a passion that is now my full-time job.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey into equine photography was slow, but very organic. Additionally, my business grew slowly but steadily as I kept it a venture on the side. I have stayed very true to my vision and my passion and only taken on clients who I love and can serve well.

My name is Kirstie Marie Jones, the photographer behind Kirstie Marie Photography. My business specializes in portrait photography for girls and their horses. I travel across the country capturing the special relationship that girls have with their equine companions — from top-level show competitors to backyard pasture pals.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
While in college, I worked for Arden Prucha Photography in Fort Worth, Texas. Arden is a phenomenal portrait and wedding photographer who taught me everything I know about shooting, editing and running a successful small business. I can’t thank her enough.
My business partner is my husband, who I couldn’t do any of this without. He comes with me to every single photo shoot to hold horses, fix hooves, get the horse’s attention, and every other detail we need!
