Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitan.
Hi Kitan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a cocktail enthusiast, but my interest in creating Sip Bistro really came from my own experiences at events and bars. I would often be disappointed by the same watered-down margaritas and other standard drinks being served at events. I’ve always believed that cocktails should have quality and consistency, but I also felt that events could offer more variety and creativity when it came to the drinks.
I started experimenting with cocktails at home and making drinks for the events I hosted. Friends and guests would taste them and often ask, “Are you a bartender?” Those reactions encouraged me to take my interest more seriously, so I pursued my bartending certification and additional bartending courses. I then developed my own signature cocktail menu and hosted tasting events to get honest feedback, refine my recipes, and create a menu with something for different palates.
I’m also naturally creative and love decorating and creating beautiful experiences, so I wanted to bring that same creativity into the way cocktails are presented. That’s where the visual side of Sip Bistro really came together. I began designing cocktail displays that were not only thoughtfully crafted, but aesthetically pleasing and memorable, the kind of presentation that makes you want to pull out your phone and take a picture.
Ultimately, Sip Bistro was born from wanting to make drinks a more intentional part of the event experience. I wanted to create cocktails that taste as good as they look, while bringing quality, consistency, variety, and a visually memorable experience to celebrations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me has been stepping outside of my natural comfort zone when it comes to marketing, networking, and putting myself and my business out there. I’m naturally more of a behind-the-scenes creative. I love creating cocktails, beautiful presentations, and focusing on the details that make the Sip Bistro experience special, but marketing and social media didn’t come as naturally to me.
Building a business also meant learning that creating a great product is only part of the process. I’ve had to become more comfortable with networking, introducing myself as a business owner, handing someone my business card, and consistently finding ways to increase Sip Bistro’s visibility.
Another important lesson has been learning how to protect the business as it grows. Over time, I’ve tightened my policies, strengthened my contracts, and learned how to navigate different client situations professionally. Every challenge has taught me something new, whether it was about marketing, networking, setting boundaries, or simply becoming more confident in my role as a business owner.
So while the road hasn’t always been smooth, I think some of the biggest challenges have also pushed me to grow beyond just being the creative behind Sip Bistro and become a stronger entrepreneur as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sip Bistro ?
Sip Bistro is a cocktail and mocktail experience designed to make entertaining feel elevated, personalized, and effortless. While we offer traditional bartending services, our approach goes far beyond simply serving drinks. Every experience is thoughtfully curated around the client’s event, theme, and vision, from custom cocktail menus and personalized drink names to beautifully styled garnishes and presentation.
One of our most popular offerings is our Cocktail Display, an aesthetic, serve-yourself experience where beautifully crafted cocktails and mocktails are displayed for guests to enjoy. Clients can also elevate the display with a curated selection of finger foods or desserts, creating a grazing-table-style experience that combines drinks and bites in one beautiful setup.
Our Cocktail Experience is our full-service bartending option. It includes consultation, menu curation, customized cocktails, personalized drink names, garnishes, mixers, and everything needed to create the experience, with the exception of the alcohol, which is supplied by the client. The goal is to make the drinks feel like an intentional part of the event rather than an afterthought.
We’ve also expanded Sip Bistro beyond events with Ready to Spike, our line of bottled mixers. These are crafted cocktails in a convenient bottle that can be enjoyed at home or brought to a girls’ night, dinner, celebration, or other gathering without needing a bartender. Each mixer is specifically crafted to pair with recommended spirits, and the bottle provides guidance on what type of liquor to add.
Another recent addition is Spoiled by Sip Bistro, our indulgent dessert drink line. It features rich, flavorful drinks inspired by desserts, including boozy milkshakes and drinks with fun toppings such as boba. It’s designed to feel like a dessert and a cocktail experience in one.
What sets Sip Bistro apart is the attention to detail. We don’t just provide drinks, we create an experience around them. From the flavor profile and customized names to the styling, presentation, and overall aesthetic, every element is designed to complement the occasion. I’m especially proud of how Sip Bistro has evolved from a cocktail service into a brand with multiple ways for people to enjoy beautifully crafted drinks, whether they want a full cocktail experience, an elevated self-serve display, a grazing-style setup, a bottled mixer at home, or an indulgent dessert drink.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say the quality that has been most important to my success is resilience, but also the ability to adapt. As a business owner, there are always going to be challenges, unexpected hurdles, and things that don’t go according to plan. I think what separates people who ultimately succeed from those who give up is the willingness to keep going, even when the original plan doesn’t work.
For me, that doesn’t mean blindly doing the same thing over and over. I believe in being consistent, but I also believe in being introspective. If something isn’t working, I want to understand why, get feedback, listen to my customers, and be willing to try something different.
That was especially important when I was developing Sip Bistro’s cocktail menu. I hosted cocktail tasting events and intentionally invited a diverse group of people who preferred different types of spirits. I wanted honest feedback from people with different tastes and preferences. I remember someone telling me that while they liked one of the drinks, it was sweeter than what many men would typically prefer. That feedback made me realize I needed to have options that appealed to guests who preferred a less sweet cocktail, and I adjusted my menu accordingly.
That experience reinforced something I believe strongly: you have to be willing to listen, learn, and evolve. Success isn’t always about getting everything right the first time. Sometimes it’s about being willing to recognize what isn’t working, make the adjustment, and keep moving forward.
