Meet Kristen Hafner of Kristen Hafner Photography in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Hafner.

Kristen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always had an interest in the creative arts, ever since high school. I had taken a film photography class in school that intrigued me but it wasn’t until I had my first child I really dove into the art of photography. Being able to see beauty in the seemingly normal, finding a smile of a child often not see, and making that a permanent memory, THAT is what got me hooked.

I began taking friends and family as clients. It was a slow and steady hobby. Before I knew it that hobby grew into a passion, a need to succeed. Soon my friend and family referred me to their friends and family, so on and so forth. I realized, I had made myself a business, a momtuprenuer so to speak, ha! I needed to make it official. In the fall of 2014 Kristen Hafner Photography became an official business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any business there are struggles. Mine has been balance. I stay home with my three boys. Leaving on weekend evenings and some week day evening for sessions took getting used to. Editing sessions during nap times and evenings. I could not do this business without a supportive husband.

Kristen Hafner Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a natural light portrait and lifestyle photographer, specializing in family and children. Natural light meaning I don’t use flash or artificial lighting. I’m a seeker of the sun. My sessions are held outdoors with the exception of my newborn sessions which are held in the family’s home.

I would say I am most proud of how genuine my work is. I do my best to make my images true to life, no crazy photoshopping here. I capture posed portrait moments, but the ones that are my favorite are those real life shots, laughing, smiling, an embrace, unposed.

I feel what sets me apart from others would be my client interactions. I have yet to meet a child or family that didn’t leave a session feeling like a friend. Many of my clients have become more than just clients and I often leave with a hug by a child. Which is exactly why I do this job, it makes my heart full.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It may be a little victory, but it is probably when an image I took in this year’s bluebonnets went Instagram viral.

Pricing:

  • Family Session $375

Kristen is amazing! We treasure our family portrait. A few years ago we had her booked for a rare family portrait when all 9 of us were in town on the same day and Ice-Mageddon hit so we thought for sure our outdoor session was ruined. Nope! She showed up and took gorgeous pictures from our front porch with snow in the background and they turned out gorgeous!
